Catherine - Packing removal involved slight discomfort, mostly when they were cutting the stitches; the actual pulling it out was mostly just *weird,* in that it was my very first experience with something sliding in or out of there! Brassard puts the packing inside a condom, so it was a very quick little slipping it out, no endless feet of gauze or anything exciting like that. I'm fairly sure the condom "package" was around the size of the largest dilator, too, actually.

And once it was out, I was SO MUCH more comfortable. Light-years better. That and the catheter worked miracles to improve how comfortable I was and how easily I could get around - five minutes after the packing was out, I was up and walking, and about 10X faster than before, too.

Not wishing to go off topic, but we are fairly close to a question I have.

Would anyone wish to comment on the pain/experience of having the packing removed.

From what I understand, this packing is considerably larger than even the largest dilator.

Is there much associated in this process?

I appreciate your comments.

Kia Ora Cathrine,

Due to a slightly inflamed neo-vagina, I had to wait an extra week before the surgeon took out the packing ...When it came out there was a short sharp shock/pain...

But one thing to bear in mind...Nothing is permanent, and just like the passing of the day, so too this pain will pass...

i wish i had kept my alien baby...with a nice frame and some creativity i'm sure the stained gauze will make a unique piece of modern art!!! and yes it hurts although it is a one off and fairly quick procedure.

for those who enjoyed dilation it must be really lucky...i am almost a week from 3 mths postop and it just gets harder!!

Yeah, I'm enjoying it more often than not, but it took about six months. Get through month three, and you'll be mostly home free. Think of how little a month is when you consider how long you've waited for this! :)

That would make for an interesting exhibit if we all interpreted the experience through an artistic repurposing of the alien children we give birth to...sadly, mine was taken to whatever remote laboratory where it will be raised to serve the Canadian government...I hope like Wolverine. I'd like to be Wolverine's mom.

Thank you to all who replied to my question. It has put my mind at ease.

I appreciate and honour your kindness in sharing what had to be, something like a hellishly amazing experience.

Dilation was hands down the most difficult and traumatic part of my experience.. I tried so many things to make it easier. I even developed food allergies post op that I didnt discover until 6 months post op and having such extreme intestinal discomfort made dilation even more scary for me. I had to dilate 3 times a day for 6 months and twice a day up until a year and I still lost 3 inchs of depth. I needed to sit on that pillow until month 7...However on the brighter note, I still have 5 inchs of depth and I am down to dilating every 2 or 3 days now a year and a half later. So if you feel absolutely miserable and horrible now I promise you it will be worth it in the end.

Two more things regarding dilation/packing removal:

1) Packing removal: for me, it didn't hurt at all. Dr Suporn packs with loose gauze, not so much to stretch things but to keep things in place, I think, and it came out like the handkerchief out of a clown's breast pocket... not pleasant, but more oogy. I might add, that five-7 days after SRS, I was still hopped up on a ton of pain meds...can't recall if morphine still or not (prolly tapering off by then but I can't recall) but definitely hard core pain meds like Tramadol. That'll dull the pain of any drain/packing removal too...

2) Dilation has been fine for me, sitting upright was the pain in the arse. :) What I've done I cannot recommend but it worked for me... since I'm in a monogamous (well, polyfidelitous) relationship with gay girls, I didn't really need to worry about a large diameter vagina, so I basically got myself through the tough stuff using the small diameter for depth and to help lube things up, then the medium. Tapered off to once a day at five months. Didn't touch the big one (34mm) when the going got hard (2 months or so) until last week. Well, guess what? Now that dilation is comfy with the medium, after only a week of painless trials, the big one goes in almost to full depth (6 inches). Meaning, maybe when things get so painful you wanna die even with the medium (2-4 months depending), don't feel bad if you only maintain with the medium (32mm).... as long as you don't lose depth, width apparently is easy enough to regain. Just my experience, tho... and if you need that larger diameter sooner because of a boyfriend etc, well then good luck! :)

I had my SRS with Suporn on Jan 14. He said that the second and third months would be the worst because of the contraction of scar tissue, and it certainly is.Painful to get the medium one in at first, but after a minute it is not so bad.Pain in the butt(literally) but the results are worth it.It helps to rotate the medium one as you push it in. After 15 minutes of the medium, the large one goes in with no problem.

Does intercourse count towards the dialation regimine or do you still need to use the dialators?

,

Kia Ora Rosa,

From what I gather having regular intercourse does reduce the amount of dilating one has to do...

But one must dilate for a period of time[surgeon's recommendations] before their neo-vigina is ready for action...

Yes in my paperwork it says that 1 intercourse session can be used in place of a dialation, but there is a certain amount of time you cant cant have intercourse, my paperwork says 3 months, and it takes a year for everything to completely settle

it must be on the assumption that the partner inserts the penis to the same depth as the dilator? and that it us at least as thick as the dilator??

For Dr. Bowers, after 6 weeks, one session of intercourse = 1 dilation session.  Since you are on three dilations under her instructions at that time, the intercourse and/or dilation need to be spaced over the day.  Having your partner do it before breakfast, coming home at lunch, and then at bed time will leave him pretty worn out.  That's why you get the plastic boyfriends.

Every surgeon will have different time lengths and time spacings, so go for what your's says on your discharge papers.

For me it was about month number five. That's when it got more easier and way more fun

So far for me, 1 and 2 are not really painful, and I went to #3 last night, and that was painfull, I am at 1 month post out now, I supose each person is different, I would think maybe increasing the time of your dilation, but I would also email your dr.
