MOBILE, Alabama – Shaniah Michele Woods is a transgender woman, a drag show queen and an attention-seeker who once went on the "Jerry Springer Show."

What Woods is not, her mother insists, is a murderer.

"She was never the violent type," said Barbara Smith, who lives in Daytona Beach, Florida. "If you knew Shaniah, you would be praying for Shaniah."

Mobile police, however, allege that Woods and co-defendant Christopher Anthony Williams did turn violent on March 20 when U.S. Coast Guard technician Robert A. "Andrew" Roberts died from gunshot wounds at the Baymont Inn and Suites off of Interstate 65.
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde

"For transpeople, using the right pronoun is NOT simply a 'political correctness' issue. It's core to the entire struggle transpeople go through. Using the wrong pronoun means 'I don't recognize you as who you are.' It means 'I think you're confused, delusional, or mentally I'll.'. It means 'you're not important enough for me to acknowledge your struggle.'"
