This actually happened a couple of days ago:
A girl I work with was looking for a band-aid. I remembered that I keep a first aid kit in my backpack, so I offered one up. She was surprised and commented "Not to sound sexist or anything, but I never figured the person with a band aid would be male". If only she knew ...
I have moments like that a lot. I'm so much more polite and less competitive than most guys that it gets noticed, and then idk how I feel. I mean, I shouldn't try to have my cake and eat it too, and I love showing that it IS possible for men to behave this way, but I got a pretty huge shortcut to awareness/gentleness by being raised in the opposite gender.
What made me happy today was that I purchased a bicycle. I've used them for fun and transport most of my life but for various reasons spent the last sixish years without.
I got this

with black and white accents instead of silver.
I would've given my nonexistent left nut for really any non-kmart bike, but because I haven't maintained or repaired one in so long I decided it was best to get it from a bike shop rather than craigslist or a pawn shop. The guy sold it to me for 100 dollars less than MSRP and promised free maintenance for a year, and he gave me a discount on the kryptonite lock.
I don't have any bungee at the moment, and I don't want to shell out for panniers, so for groceries I attached a plastic kitty litter bucket to the rack on the left side, and I fastened the elastic from some dead pajamas to the back on each side so I can tie off a canvas grocery bag and stick it under that (looped twice and balanced) if I run out of room in my backpack and bucket.
I'm still waiting for my ebay frog lights or I'd go ride around a bit right now that Leah's asleep. It handles well and I've got smooth roads and good bike lanes nearby. My bike snob roommate is off bottling wine in the sticks, and I'm so glad he's not here with his judgement and cynicism. I like my bike.
