Sometimes I blog things

Of course I'm sane.  When trees start talking to me, I don't talk back.

Top surgery. It's kinda becoming an obsession of mine. Just because I want to be comfortable and it gets hot as the center of Hades in the South every Summer.

Ugh, somebody cut these things off.  >:(

Same here. I've also been concerned because of reading about the risks of long-term binding. It seems even safe binding can take its toll. Plus, I can only have "male" on my passport for two years...if I don't have SRS (which I think can include top and a hysto without genital surgery) I either have to renew my passport as "female" which, 3 years on T at that point...not feasible. Or not have a passport.

I hate how they assume with long ass waiting lists, we can all have surgery in two years.

Well, I've been binding over 14 years with no ill effects except the occasional blister. I've never owned an underworks or any of those. I've always used neoprene waist trimmers. I'm glad I did because I've heard the ones most guys use can cause back issues, rib bruising, and make your chest look wonky after awhile.

Not sure what to say about the passport but that sucks. I'm still legally female but have had my name changed since 2002. It's really never an issue except when I go to the DMV. They run my SS number and want to know why there are two names under it (my birthname and current name come up on it). It'll stay that way until I become legally male which in this State requires two letters. I have one coming soon for my hysto and my top surgery will be around this time next year.

I just want my top and to get legal. Then I'm going to chill for awhile and save for bottom surgery. Almost have enough for top (going to be over 8 grand). A waiting list? You must be Canadian or British. It's tough to wait but feel privileged you even have that option. I'm going to end up putting myself in a lot of debt once this is all over with.  :-\

By the way Simon have you decided on your top surgeon yet?

Nope, I probably won't until I get the rest of the money together (around tax time next year) and go talk to Macphee. I want to see if she has any portfolios I can look at of previous work she has done. If I like what I see then I'm going with her. She is expensive (right now $8200) but if I go out of State I'd end up paying the same or even more once everything was said and done.

Have you decided who you're going to go with?

Yeah, you're right Simon. I know how lucky I am. :) I've heard about too many people unable to afford SRS. And I am Canadian.

I may try the waist bands you're talking about. I've been looking for different ways of binding because I don't want to have issues, and I've tried sports bras but they're not quite enough...I'm losing weight on and off so I hope weight loss along with some alternate binding methods will allow me to still hide my chest and keep as safe as I can.

The waist trimmers have always done me well. I've never had a mishap or anything with them. Like I said, once in a blue moon (like when I worked 10 hours or more a day) I would get the random blister. When you first get them (I usually buy two or three at a time at $5 a pop) they smell like rubber, lol. I throw them in the wash with my clothes and dry them on low. They last a decent amount of time and are easily replaceable. After awhile they usually crack in the dryer and then I just toss them or use the old ones for around the house.

If your body is changing shape they are a good option. I've lost a little bit since starting T but my chest is broader. If I was wearing underworks or something like that I'd have to buy a different binder. These just adjust.

Right now I'm still going with Garramone but let me know if Dr. Macphee has any interesting results on larger guys!  The the event that Garramone retires or dies before I can go to him I will need a second option (after I'm done crying a river of tears).

Will do for sure.

If you do end up coming to NC for surgery one day make sure to let me know. I'd definitely want to meet up (and there would be no way you'd be going to surgery alone). That is if you need/want someone to go with you. My gf is an EMT so if you needed anything it'd be no issue helping you out (we've got a buttload of medical supplies).

I know you said it'll be a few years but I'm sure I'll be lurking around here somewhere still.

Currently thinking about how stupid it is that youtube has ads now on every video that play sound and can't be turned off. Not the ones before the video starts in the same window that the video will be in. The ones on the side that wait til you're about 15 seconds in and then when you think you're safe, it starts playing. And it's always twice as loud as whatever video you're watching. And half of mine are in Spanish, which is a language I don't speak or understand.

Thanks man, I really do appreciate that. :)  I'm debating if I should at least get my phone consultation in with Garramone in a few months.

Liminal Stranger

A substitute teacher who knows me was filling in for one of the gym teachers yesterday and loudly called me over by my birthname while my friends were gathered around him, then told the others to skidaddle, saying he "wanted to talk to her alone". Imaginably I had a heart attack, but they had left before he used a female pronoun and no one seems to notice that my birthname is obviously female. Maybe it's not Annie or Sarah or something like that but it's still a girl name. He only wanted to compliment my haircut, I explained quietly to him and he said it's fine and apologized if he had upset me or anything. He's a nice guy, just a bit annoying to have as a substitute because he does things very old-school and teacher-centered, we have a friendly rivalry any time he fills in for one of my classes.

They just think it's one of those dumb names parents give out of novelty to make a statement, I first thought that they knew I was trans but they don't appear to, I've been asked some very...male-specific questions before by people who did know my birthname (not the first time that guy has subbed in that class). I'll leave it at that  :P

Also the lady upstairs from me who has known me since I was very little told me that I'm "a real gentleman" because I held the door for her, she recognized my mom and knows I don't have brothers or sisters. Yay for passing under unlikely parameters, when I went out yesterday I looked horribly feminine to myself too.

It feels so refreshing to just go outside and take a walk for an hour, especially when you've spent all of your morning on the computer. ::)

Just talked to my mom (we usually talk once a week) and mentioned that I'm working towards saving up for my top surgery (I have to buy another car soon so that is going to set me back a little). She knows it's going to be between next Summer and the end of the year when I get it done depending on my class schedule. She's going to watch my dog a few days and is cool with everything.

...until I mention getting my birth certificate changed. I think I screwed up when I said, "It'll be like that person before never existed". She says, "well, I loved that person" and then gets upset. I tried to explain I am still that person it's just the shell has changed to reflect how I feel. She was still upset.

sigh.

It sucks that after so many years she still doesn't fully see you for who you are. :(
