Any peeps in Florida done this? I was born in another state and in order to change my birth certificate from that state, I need a Court Order of Gender Change. I've had my SRS, performed here in the USA, I have the signed/notarized letter from my surgeon, and all other supporting docs etc... but I need to get this one as well. Anyone else gotten one of these in Florida?

I've spoken to a few lawyers and I've gotten answers from... A Florida Court will not issue such an order because there is no law or statute that governs it... To come in pay us a retainer, and we'll see if we can do it. I'd like to hear from any and all that have gone thru this process or similar.

Thanks.

you dont need a court order. what i did was first took my srs letter to the birth certificate people. that took a week. next i had to do the social security office and that was same day. the final was the DMV, they were same day. i had to show the srs letter, my new birth certificate and social security card. yeah florida judges dont normally issue things like that

That would be cool... but I wasn't born in Florida. In my home state, they need a court order of gender change to change my bc. WTF! It's ridiculous, but something that I need to get.  :(

you will most likely have to take care of that in your home state first. maybe the DMV will do your DL with just your letter  :(

Tried that too. The order of gender change has to come from the Florida court as I'm a resident of Florida. This is becoming a PITA really.

nope you shouldn't need that. they are just giving you a hard time because they can. they tried to trick me too with crap talk like that at first. thats why i started with the birth certificate and just did one thing at a time when i re did the process.

That's what I thought... but there's a bunch of states where you also need a court order to change your bc gender in addition to the SRS surgeon's letter:

See this link for each state's requirements: http://www.drbecky.com/birthcert.html

For my home state:
"In order for the Division of Vital Records to change your sex and name on your birth certificate, we require a Court Order indicating that both your name and sex are to be changed. You can most likely obtain an amended Court Order to indicate the correct sex along with your new name. We cannot change the sex on a birth certificate with just a Physicians letter."

Sucks @$$ huh?

This story had a happy ending. I got the "Order of Gender Change" and was able to do it myself. Any other peeps in Florida need to know how... PM me for details.

Jennx how were you able to do it? I hope you're still active on the forum. I'm new, I just made this account for this purpose. I'm trying to click on your profile to pm you but it says I don't have access to that? I REALLY need to find out how to do this. PLEASE

Amos, it is a bit of an old thread, but you'll need .. 15 posts, I think, to be able to PM somebody..  Might be 10, but it's one of the security requirements for Susans.

And Welcome, too!  Hope you'll stick around..

Anyone know how JennX did that ? I wish she would have posted, must have been a loophole. FL now has some "Real ID" program, which is supposed to streamline the process, but I have no idea how it works. Info is vague at best, at least what I could find. Any info would be a huge help to this soon-to-be FL girl... thx in advance, ~K

RealID is federal bs for citizenship verification. In practical terms it means you have to change SSA records first before anything that requires verified identity (ID/Driver's License, bank account etc).
