My chest hurts when I wear my bra

Yesterday, since I was going to be buying girls' clothes for the first time, I went to a lingerie shop, saying I didn't have breasts and would like them to help me correct the situation. She gave me two options: silicone things and very padded bras. I took the latter, because the silicone things would make me sweat, and I'd always worry about whether it's well placed.

So! She helped me pick one of the right size: 36 (fake) A. It makes for very small breasts, but that's quite sufficient not to look ridiculous in girls' clothes, and not to be gawked at like an alien when I go out without a coat making the absence of my breasts less obvious. (Yes, until now, summer temperature or not, I've always been going out with my coat.) Well. I'll be stared at less, at least, I suppose. It's super comfy! For the first few hours, I seriously wondered where my sister and everyone else took that I would need to get used to a bra, that it's not exactly comfortable.

It's really comfy... until I've worn it for about 2-3 hours. Then my nipples (or rather, the lumps underneath) start hurting. At first it's barely noticeable, but the pain gradually increases until the bra becomes literally unbearable. You see, with my low dose of estrogen, my breasts aren't growing... but I still have higher levels than the average males, and they're being kept in that "growing" state. They're nowhere as sensitive as they were when they first began developing, but still. They just can't take the compression much longer.

I'm not sure if I'm imagining this, but I have a feeling the bra has a tendency to slide up a bit. Maybe I just need to adjust the shoulder straps a bit though.

But regardless of how I position the bra, my chest is killing me after a few hours. I definitely can't handle wearing this for a full day at school when it starts again, and this is going to be a big problem.

I thought it maybe was a bit tight for my nipples, even though it felt perfect otherwise, so today, I tied it on the last of the three hooks, while yesterday, it was on the middle one. The pain came even faster.

So uhm... Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal? What should I do?

It sounds to me like you band is too tight. There's really no need for someone who doesn't have heavy breasts to need a very tight band. Sometimes a bit of careful stitchery can loosen a bra some, but more than likely you'll need to buy another one with a larger band.

The only drawback to a looser band when  you don't have much bosom is that it can ride up now and then and you have to pull it down a bit. Alas, bra wearing will always have it's discomforts and takes a bit of adjustment, for sure.

I ride up a fair bit; it is the consequence of being small. I haven't experienced the pain you're talking about, however.

Well

A) you have started the estrogen so you are going to be more sensitive than just any average cross dresser that would be wearing one or any cis gender woman who was already fully developed.  When you are in the middle of growing you are always more sensitive.

B) sounds like a bad fit. probably just not right, plus I think the pads are messing with the feeling on your sensitivity also.

I think that since a bra is meant to support something, it's made to do an upwards tension. If you have nothing, well, there's nothing to support, so it goes up. I think.

I'd need some input from someone who's actually worn a bra while still in the sensitive stages. That way I can be sure my problem is due to the band size. (I secretly hope it's not, because I was really happy to actually have a rather average band size when I thought I was big.)

Edit: Okay, I've actually tried, for a few seconds, to put it on after loosening the shoulder straps and removing the padding, and I think I might be on to something. Tomorrow, I'll try it like this, shoulder strap looser, and (for as long as I'm at home) the padding on only one side. That should be a good "diagnostic" method.

Hi, I am speaking from experience, 22 years on hormones  ;D, I started with a training bra first then moved to a real bra when I developed fully, so what I am telling you is from what I felt when mine developed

The band will often work it's way upward if the shoulder straps because of the tension from the shoulder straps. The weight to full breasts can counter this upward pull, but when you don't have much there's nothing to keep the band from just riding up.

Okay. I've been wearing my bra all day with only minor nipple discomfort. On the middle hook, too. I think the shoulder straps were just too tight, making the bra ride up and make pressure where it shouldn't have. I'm glad it was something so simple!
