Well, I am going down to the probate court today to fill out the paperwork to change my name.  It took a friend of mine about a week and a half to get back the name change.  I am hoping it will take that...but who knows it all depends on the town I guess.  Anyway wish me luck.  I will let you know how it goes.

Where do you live that it is so fast?

Where I am you have to publish your requested name change in the newspaper for six weeks.

Good luck!

I dont know how it happens over there across the pond.... but here in the UK all we have to do is apply for a deed poll, fill in your details and chosen new name, pay for it and they send you all the doc's.... and scarily enough you get discount if you change your name with them more than once  ???

haha, i didnt know you got a discount - i do know they do discounts if you buy for more than one person though - going to court to explain myself doesn't seem too fun

Hey there...I live in a small town in CT.  I will let you know how it all goes.

Well..I was an idiot on Friday when I was going down to the probate court.  I forgot my check book and of course they did not accept my debit card.  But anyway...I went down again today...and I forgot my birth certificate.  Luckily I had a copy of one to give them but I had to go all the way home to find it.  It was nice of them to accept a copy since I was born about an hour away from where I live now.  I had to send some documents to the small town I was born in and it should be here within the week.  I need the orginal with the seal on it for the day of the hearing.  The hearing is set for June 21.  I will let you all know how it goes.

That funny the "discount" I guess them oh so powerful idiots in parlament think "oh so you didn't like your first name so I guess you will be changing it alot so we will put a discount on that one so they the good old folk will feel privalleged!"

How much does it cost to change your name in the uk then?

No idea how much in the Uk....but the discount thing is alittle odd.  But I know here in my small town its pricey but you cant really put a price on it.  Anyway...I will let you know all know about it by next week.  I have the hearing with the probate judge June 21.

It wasn't that bad.  The most amusing question was, "Why do you want to change your name?"  Well, duh!  You've been calling me Ms. Kellogg since I got in the room.  I presume I gave the correct answer, "I can no longer relate to having a male name."  The question that caught me off guard was, "Does anyone else have the name you are requesting?"  Uh...  Six billion people on the planet.  How should I know?  Evidently my, "Not that I am aware of," was acceptable.
