Androcur and Breast Growth..

I fond myself in a slightly odd position. For various reasons, including a 0 T level, I was taken off the Androcur about a year ago - at which point my breast growth stopped. I was put back on a lower dose of Androcur about a month or so, and now I suddenly have sore breasts again..

I'm wondering why my breast growth seems to be so linked with my Androcur usage? Is it the weak progestogen activity of Androcur? Or is it something else? I don't know - and none of my research is giving me any answers..

Yes, I will be asking my gyno when I see her early next month, but just thought I'd throw this out there and see if any one else had any ideas..

In Canada we are usually put on a medium to high level
Of Spiro...and told that it helps with breast development
How it works .I forgot ..it was a side effect I believe. .documented
Even before it was used for feminization

Spiro and Androcur are somewhat different beasts..

I know breast growth is listed as a known side effect for both. What I'm wondering is why my growth seems to be linked to my Androcur usage - I'f I'm taking it, I'm getting growth.. If I'm not taking it, I get nothing. I want to know why..

Are you taking estrogen or just Androcur?

Both.. I've never stopped taking E - just had the break from Androcur.. My levels have been fine all along.. This is why I'm a little puzzled.

I think some are missing my real question..

Why do I only get breast growth when Androcur is part of the mix? With no T and acceptable levels of E, I get no growth - but the moment Androcur is added, I get growth.. Does any one have a good suggestion as to why that is?

Do you check your "free E" levels?  It's only the free E that does anything anyway, perhaps the Androcur boosts the amount of E that is free.

Yes.. Have done so all along.. My E levels did not change when I stopped Androcur and have always been good..

Perhaps given that Androcur is not available in the US, I should perhaps of asked this question in a less US-centric forum..

I'm on androcur, but haven't stopped it, so I can't tell you. I'm thinking about stopping it to save my kidney/liver for a few more years (when i'm old) with an orchi, but I don't want my boobies to stop either...

I wonder if it's just specific to you?  Or if some of the medical community members know who are on here...

It's not as hard on the liver as some would have you think..

Although I've been on HRT for 19 years, I've been on Androcur for 17 years. My liver ignored all the hysteria about the side-effects. Tests have always come back normal. I have only a couple more months of Androcur then I'm off for good for SRS. That should be very interesting because all I know is being on it.

I stopped it for 2 main reasons.. 1) It did a real number on my T level.. Zero is not the aim.. And 2) I did get the depressive side effects..

It took a year for my T level to come back up to something worth measuring again..

Although my general mood has been extremely stable for many years, it's been a stable subdued. I've always been struggling with mental energy levels. I don't know if that's a side-effect of low T or from the Androcur. We'll see soon enough. My T is 0.4. I had a BA, so I won't know about breast loss.

Cyproterone acetate (aka androcur) is also part of a combined oral contraceptive with ethinyl estradiol, available in some places but not here in the USA.  In the contraceptive, it comes in WAY smaller doses than MTF normally take.  It is a progestin and a T antagonist -- i.e., it cuts T and DHT to the proverbial quick.

You are reporting its progestin effect, which many people on the oral contraceptive report: breast growth.  It can be significant.
All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in single words: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

Hi Kelly,

I think I have an answer for you! Certain drugs that have Progesterone effects activate the Progesterone receptors (PR) and when they do this they can increase IGF-1 and HGH which in turn stimulates breast growth. I believe Androcur ( Cyproterone Acetate) has this effect.

PM me if you want more detail.

Riki

Trouble is, it hasn't happened yet!
