:::Never started a topic before. Hope I'm doing this right.:::

I'd rather not start off on a gloomy note so this information may sound a bit trivial. My apologies.

Hello to everyone willing to read me.  :D My name is Billy Makali'i Brown, but recently I'm trying to get people to start calling me Maka. I am fairly certain that I am a mtf transexual. While it has only been about 3, maybe 4 months since I have come to this conclusion, I have felt uncomfortable with my male body for years, since I was very young. As you may guess, I've not told many people very much at all. I have not started transitioning yet for I am still only at say, an 89-94% sure that I am transexual, give or take. Not saying I'm doubtful I just want to be smart about things after all.

General info. about me: I am one of those non-social creatures who likes to have only four or five very very close friends and keep them for a very long time. :) I have three main hobbies and interests.
I love to write, especially fiction stories. It's the one area where I feel confident and am not always down on myself.
I am a musician, percussionist to be specific, and have been playing for over 6 years. ^_^ I love music of all kinds.
I am a cirque (circus) performer. This is by far my favorite place to be and the community there is very understanding and encouraging. My favorite acts to do are aerial silks and the german wheel, but I am skilled in many other apparatuses and acts as well. I receive jobs every once in a while, but I hope to someday make this my full time career. Along with possibly writing some stories on the side.  :D

The reason I am here: Currently, to see if transitioning is the right thing and/or a possibility for me, to seek help and friendship from others going through similar experiences, and to offer my unique point of view to others and help in any way I can. ^_^

And on that note, hello Susan's Place! ^_^ I am super happy to be here!

I was wondering if you were really a circus performer, so I checked out your introduction. And you are! That's awesome! :D

We have some things in common. You play drums, I play bass. Also, we both write. I never share the stuff I write, but I do write a lot. I'd like to try to publish someday, but I haven't submitted anything yet because I guess I feel it's not good enough. Someday.

What kind of fiction do you write?

Haha Thanks!!!  :D I'll have to post some videos/pictures of myself performing sometime. (The only reason I haven't yet is because I don't think I look girly enough in any of them, i.e., scared to show everyone how muscly I am. xP )

You play bass? That's so cool!!   :D I always wished I knew how to play the bass. It's by far one of my favorite instruments.  ;D Is it the bass like one instrument larger than a cello or bass guitar?
Haha don't worry. I'm often really shy about my writing as well. I'm kind of young to really be taken seriously in the publishing game yet but maybe someday I'll have the courage and patience to actually finish one of my stories and get past my 20 page long expositions. x) I'd love to read some of your writing sometime if and when you are ever willing to show it to me. ^_^

I really like to write (more like come up with) fantasy stories, but the only story that I came anywhere even close to writing all the way through was actually a sci-fi. However I think it's important to branch out with story creation and try different things. (I even once tried to write a story that was a science fiction/dystopian/erotic novel all rolled into one!  ;) Oh girl was that interesting and entertaining.)
Anyways most of my writing likes to find its way into the fantasy genre. It's what I've always loved I suppose. ^_^ As far as writing style and the like goes, I tend to enjoy finding loopholes in literature and coming up with my own terms to coin. ;) Drawing on a bit of poetry never hurt anyone. I often like to call myself "The Writress." hehe  ;D When I'm on forums and social media I tend to use a lot of smiley faces. As a fellow writress I can see how that might get irritating. Let me know and I'll adjust my writing style accordingly.:)(Funny I was just talking about this on a different thread.)

And what of yourself?  :D What sort of writing do you like to do?

"The Writress." I like that! :D

I've been working on a sci-fi(ish), dystopian story lately. (We have the same taste! How cool is that?!) I guess the stuff I write is sort of a cross between urban fantasy and sf. I prefer to set it beyond the present day because it gives me more to work with, but not so future or spacey that I need to make up new rules. I guess I like the William Gibson style near-future setting. And like Gibson my stories tend to take place in a dark future; but they're not adventures. I like character studies. People interest me more than events.

(I do write some erotica too, but what writer doesn't? Most just don't admit it! lol)

I play bass guitar, not double bass. Although I've always wanted to buy a double bass and try it out. But unfortunately I haven't played my bass in a while. It's hard to stay motivated to practice when you play alone, and I haven't been in a band for some time.

I'd love to see those pictures! Is that not you in your avatar? I assumed it was.

Wow sweet!!! :D Character Studies are my favorites as well!! ^_^ I always find myself trying to make a story with all characters and no events though. x) kind of bites when you've got these really neat people and nothing to do with them... I've only really tried to write scifi once or twice and I often feel like I'm not smart enough. :P fantasy is easier for me because I don't like having to do all the research to make it believable...

If you don't mind a bit (a lot) of language and some (a lot) of graphic scenes, one of my favorite trilogies that has the most amazing characters is the Aeon's Gate Series. It's a fantasy, and admittedly if it weren't for how interesting the characters were the books probably wouldn't be all that great, but it's definitely a must read on my list!! Word of warning though, not exactly for the feint of heart, or stomach. I still love them. ^_^

Awwww, you should get it out again! I was in a band for a little while. We put an E.P. out on ITunes called "Mvufu." I once had this dream, and the bassist was playing this ridiculously long bass guitar!! Like long enough for me to stretch out my arms as far as I could with it on and still be touching the frets. Don't know if that's practical, or even possible. (probably be too low to hear) But I picture that a lot when I think of bass guitars. Hmhm ^_^

Yes that is me in the avatar but that picture was taken a long time ago and my back has gotten a lot more flexible since then. :)

Well, the trick about fantasy and sci-fi (that I think a lot of people don't realize) is they're essentially the same thing. Trade wood and stone for metal and plastic; magic for technology; outer space for land or sea; planets for nations; Captains and Admirals for Kings and Emperors; etc. It's really all the same stuff. Only the details differ. No surprise the two genres are always lumped together.

Unfortunately, playing bass again isn't about getting out. I have nobody to play with. My options dwindled over time and now I'm bandless. It sucks because I was always in at least one band, and playing music is the greatest therapy of all.

I was actually just considering getting a 5-string bass, but I put it off because I thought it'd be a bad investment since I have nobody to play with. Maybe I will get it. I always wanted a 5-string.

I haven't heard of Aeon's Gate, but I I'll check it out.

Mvufu? Mind if I download it illegally? (Just kidding!) I don't have iTunes. My taste in music doesn't really jibe with iTunes. I'll see if I can find if on Amazon though.

One of my old bands put out out an album, but it was horrible. We had someone supposedly driving around the country dropping off demos at clubs in every city, but I don't know if he really did. But a major advertiser stole one of our songs so I guess we're were pretty good. (We didn't have rights to the song. Stupid teenagers.) It was used for a beer commercial in the 90's. I doubt you'll remember it, but if you do... I wrote it. Only my version was a lot cooler than theirs. lol

BTW -- if you have that good a body now, you'll transition very well. But don't be afraid to let a little fat in for the hips, butt and boobs. Especially the hips. That's what I worry about. My hips are narrow and manly. :(

Now trying to picture all of my Fantasy stories as science fiction and vice versa, x) comical though evincing. :) Thanks for the advice.

Hmmmm... I guess bass isn't really one of those instruments that's fun to play alone? I guess all you have to do is put an ad out or make some phone calls. A women who plays bass guitar? That's hot. ;)
And I agree, music is the greatest therapy of all...

Yeah it was like 5 songs I think? Sort of an indie synth pop type thing. Our vocalist (basically our band leader) put it out on a whole bunch of different music sharing sites and the like. Back then the band name was Q&A. Not my idea, I joined after their old drummer quit. I was with them for a little over a year and then it just got to be too much.

Wow that's neat! What was the song? I doubt I'd know the commercial as I wasn't born until the late 90's, but I'm willing to look it up. :)

Haha ^_^ Thanks! My job sort of demands that I be physically fit. Awww don't worry. I can touch the bones of my hips in two places on each side so we're kinda in the same boat. That's what I think I want most of all, hips.
