Hey guys, I've got a little problem, I'm curious if anyone had that. After a few days when I get my shot my throat starts to hurt. Like when I have a flu or a really bad cold just without fever. When I started T I felt the changes there and my voice cracked but it wasn't this painful. Is this normal? I'm thinking of going to the doc during the week but would like to know if it's common maybe? Thanks.

When something is painful, it is time to ask a doctor about it.

That said, I have heard other people report something similar. Don't use that as a reason not to talk to a doctor, however. Always get professional medical advice.

Well my throat doesn't hurt, but it's sore. Been going on the few weeks. Kind fo worse when I try to project my voice.

I've been to the doc today and all he said was I shouldn't drink cold drinks or eat ice cream and nonsense things like these. He said it's fine when he looked at it but it hurts like hell. It's always me who needs to find out what's wrong with me and what pill to ask for   >:(  Maybe the bloodwork results will tell more...

Is there reason to think it's more? Doctor's can miss stuff, otoh, this is a pretty common thing, AFAIK. One odd thing that can cause sore throats without otherwise being ill is gastric reflux. Usually you would have other symptoms but I had this and didn't know about it. I don't think T causes this to any degree but it could be coincidental. You can also get polyps which can be painful.

Meanwhile you might try gargling with warm salt water.

No, not really, my mom just freaked out and hopefully made it worse than it really is. My doc is like I described in any case, with any patients, I'm not really surprised to tell the truth. Thanks for the advice, I'll try it.

I had a odd feeling tight throat and felt like I had a cold the first few weeks on T. Your ticker says you've been on T for 9 months so I seriously doubt it has anything to do with that. I think you should contact an ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist and not even bother with the general doctor you see. I tend not to trust regular doctors. Why? Well, I had a stiff neck that wouldn't go away for months. The general doc kept saying I had a viral infection and was trying to treat it with a multitude of meds and pain killers. I finally went somewhere that knew what they were doing and they found I had a tumor on my spinal cord. Not saying your issue will be severe but just saying it pays to go to people who know what they're doing when a problem is persistent.

Good point. Didn't look at his ticker. I'd guess that 90%+ of voice changes happen before 1 year. Better see a ENT.

Could be your vocal cords are growing.

Yeah I also thought that most changes in the voice happen in the first 6 months or so. It's just I usually get these pains after the shots. But it might not to do anything with T. Thanks for the advice Simon and Jay, I'll look into a specialist if it will come back after the next injection.
Growing of the vocal cords is normal on T right?

In my personal experience, it's normal. It was the second week of my dose that it did this to me. It was always worse at night but significantly better during the day (usually). I also had some neck stuff going on at the same time as this... it would feel 'stuck' around there (with some pulling) when I moved a certain way (from under-jaw down) but that's because some of the muscles and whatnot in there had to stretch to accommodate the enlarging of my entire larynx and my trachea as well. When those finally did get pushed over and out, that stopped. If memory serves, the pain in my larynx stopped around the seventh month. It still happens occasionally but nowhere near as intense as it had been happening from around the third month on (basically, it felt like my throat was being bloated out {think of a buoy being overinflated, that'd be about right} but it really wasn't. That had to be the thickening and stretching of the actual cartilage of the larynx. That also changes, not just the vocal cords/muscles in the middle of it).

I did go to my doc about it and after palpating around, declared it normal. But that's me. It's never a bad idea to get it checked. In the meantime, try warm/hot drinks. For me, the only stuff that helped was coffee (tried tea and whatnot, didn't really do anything for mine). Your mileage may vary. Find what works for you.
