Ms. Fashion Bell

Hello,
I am new to all of this.  I've felt like I wanted to be a woman almost my entire life, but I live in a pretty conservative area, so I was always afraid to say something about it.

I'm currently 23 and am in my last year of my bachelors (Music Education) and I have student teaching in spring 2014.  Sometime towards the end of that I'd like to start hormones.  My biggest concern is whether or not I'll be able to pass as a woman.  I know the road from now until there will be long, but as long as I can look like a woman ONE DAY I can handle it.

Right now I guess my biggest question is what options do I have? I know HRT will drastically change a few things, but I'm worried that because of my age it'll be harder to transition and pull it of well (well being really emphasized!!).  I guess surgery is always an option, and I know at one point it'll be necessary to change the bone below my eyebrows.  But again, what options do I have? And also, could anyone give me an insight as to whether I could pull it off based off of my current physical state? I'll attach a few pictures below.

Thank you to everyone for your help!

I'm going to second the therapy suggestion. It's been some of the best money I've spent on my transition.

23? To old? Pffft.. I started my transition at 34 and I pass just fine..

Like I said, you age isn't an issue. I'm no beauty queen, but I pass just fine - well enough that people don't believe me when I say I'm trans.

Go see a therapist, get the ball rolling.. I've done OK with a mid-30's transition, but wish I'd done it 10 years ago..

I never knew how old you were Kelly, never would have guessed over 30, and I'm not just being nice.

Welcome to Susan's, Ms. Fashion Bell! :)

I'm 32, early in my transition and I seem to pass just fine. I wouldn't worry so much on passing, it's easier than you think. Just go out to a public place and look at the faces of some of the cis women there. Many will have at least some "masculine" features and I would assume they pass. ;)

I also recommend seeing a gender therapist. They can help you sort through your fears and help to give you realistic expectations. It also helps to talk with us here but this site is not a replacement for a qualified therapist.

Your options are whatever you think you need and can afford. Some women opt for FFS, BA, trachea shave, SRS, etc. Some opt for only some or none, it really just depends on what you think you need to help you be happy. :)

Ms Fashion Bell - welcome from sunny southern California :)

I don't know a single MtF member here who hasn't had similar worries.  That's why we have numerous board and topics dedicated to the subject.  Take a look at the Transitioning boards.

And while you are at it, look at the "Before & After" topic.

I am sorry to say, but I was not able to see your photos.

Just make sure it is someone who is experienced with gender issues and not some nut who is going to try to cure you with hypnotism or electroshock therapy or something
