Gieco opened a call center in my city and I just completed the phone interview this morning. Tuesday I go in for an in-person interview and a computer competency test. Starting pay is $14.25 an hour... a lot better than what I've been begging for anywhere else!

The only problem is that money is super tight and I've got to buy something to wear. I'm really nervous that Goodwill won't have anything that fits me properly.

Congrats on getting so far, and good luck!

Do you have anyone you could borrow smart clothes from for the interview?

A trick we used to use in South Africa was to open a store credit account with a clothing store. Then buy something smart on the account, wear it to the interview, and take it back the next day for a refund. Don't know whether that's an option...

Awesome news, duuude. This brings back the memory when I had work experience and had to ring employee mobile numbers to see if they were still using. I tried talking to those that answered, but it was only gibberish from me. I then started to hang up on those that would answer. I weren't suppose to be doing it anyway, and hanging up still allowed me to know whether the person was still using the number  :D. Anyway, I am sure you're a good talker over the phone! I hope Goodwill has something that fits you. I look forward to hearing your first day gossip! :c

No friends to borrow from and once you cut the tags off of clothes you can only return them for store credit.

More good news - Money is tight because my husband's been called off due to lack of work and they just got a new plane in today so he left for work this evening. That's at least a month's worth of solid work. The frustrating part is that he was only working about 20 hours a week and I had to cancel my plans for school last minute because I wouldn't have been able to pay tuition AND pay rent. He's also got a job offer making $10 more an hour than currently and he's thinking of taking it in mid September. Gieco would want me to start work Sept 30th.

Depending on where the tags are, you can hide them up the sleeve. Just use a bit of matching thread and carefully sew part of the tag onto the inside of the sleeve. Then, undo the thread when you return it.

Also, Kohl's has a GREAT return policy if you make a purchase on the Kohl's credit card. You can return stuff at any time, for any reason, without tags, and without a receipt. My friend does all her shopping at Kohl's and then returns her clothes and gets brand new ones every few months because she has the Kohl's credit card. If they have the same policy for their new contracts, maybe you should open up a card there, get a nice outfit and then return it before you get billed.

Look for a local "Career closet" They give free outfits to job hunters. Usually 2 but it depends on what has been donated.

I didn't know that about Kohls! I'm definitely going to see if I qualify for that, because that'd be pretty awesome to change my waredrobe every few months. I'll definitely see if there's a Career Closet anywhere nearby. Thanks for the suggestions!

I just looked on their website, and it appears they still have a good return policy even if you don't have their credit card, but you'll need the receipt and might just get store credit instead of a refund if you've gone ahead and taken the tags off:

QuoteKohl's is proud to offer our "No Questions Asked - Hassle Free" return policy for all purchases. We do not have a time restriction on returns. Currently our store Associates can locate Kohl's Charge purchases up to 12 months after the purchase date, and the credit can be applied to your account. Non-Kohl's Charge purchases, or purchases made outside the 12 month timeframe qualify for a Kohl's Merchandise Credit or a corporate-issued refund check.

That makes your friend sound morally bankrupt.

There's nothing wrong with taking advantage of a deal that Kohl's purposely made. They tout it all over their website. It's in the contract that you get when you sign up for their credit card. They probably make more money than they loose because they get more customers, and most people don't actually read the fine print on their cards or don't go to the website and are ignorant to the policy. They probably also take advantage of certain tax breaks offered to corporations, what's returned would be a write off. She doesn't return 100% of her clothes that she buys there, so they do make money. But, I am glad you're better than everyone else where you're in a place to constantly criticize.

Anyways, it's Wednesday now, Randomroads, did you get the job?

I got a rejection email this morning. It really deflated me and I took the news worse than I thought. I've been distracting myself with video games all morning and once it cools down outside I'm going for a hike.

Sorry to hear about your rejection.  Don't let it get you down though.  If it makes you feel better I got a rejection email a few days ago for a job I really wanted.

Ah that sucks man. :( Hopefully more fulfilling paths will open up to you now and you'll find yourself better off.

and you too Malachite. Didn't some old wide dude once say "one closed door leads to an open one" or something like that?
