"The Netflix hit Orange Is the New Black has won over critics and viewers alike this summer. The original series follows a diverse cast of characters in a women's prison in upstate New York. One of the breakout stars is Laverne Cox. Her character, Sophia, is a transgender woman who stands up for herself among prison officials and other inmates.

Cox spoke with Tell Me More host Michel Martin about the show and her experience as a transgender woman and actress."

Laverne Cox discusses being transsexual, acting, and transforming the image of transgender women.

I really enjoyed that TV show. I also think that Laverne Cox did an amazing job as an actress. First of all, she developed a good character, transness aside. Her character also gave a lot of insight into the sorts of things that transgender people go through, and she portrayed Sophia as a character with dignity, something that is really, really needed in media depictions of trans people.

I'm about halfway through it.  It's been pretty good so far, I don't think it's as good as "House Of Cards", but Netflix really set a high standard with that show.
