I don't LARP (zero character acting skills), but I do cosplay. I tend to prefer getups that obscure my whole body and leave my gender completely irrelevant to everyone around me. Though it is funny how often I am assumed to be male because I'm not showing even an inch of skin or cleavage. (How could someone with boobs not want to show them off in costume?!1)

it is part of our misogynistic society - the only way womyn can do anything is to show off massive amounts of skin - it is the only way they are allowed in those places - as pieces of meat - because obviously you can't think  :P

Seems like as good a place as any for my first post. :)

I do SCA but no other LARPS. I have been doing this for about 15 years now and have great fun doing it. The SCA is fairly accepting, with some local areas more accepting than others. I am in Southern Cal and we have one of the most accepting and diverse groups in the SCA.

The Society for Creative Anachronism http://www.sca.org/ .  They're a fun bunch, I used to go out to Pennsic, but made the mistake of taking people at their word when they asked for historical critiques of their costumes....

That's us. :) We are a fun bunch. Some people are very into authenticity and love court events, others are content to wear something "medieval-ish" and sit around a campfire. We have lots of different kinds of people.

The only SCAdians who got on my nerves were the ones who asked my opinion on the authenticity of their costumes, then were VERY offended when I pointed out inaccuracies. Appearantly I was just supposed to gush.....

I am sorry that you didn't have fun. But that's Pennsic. It's a big event, but not much of an SCA event. MOST of us are not like that.
