I feel really really bratty asking about this, because there are some people who are definitely not as lucky as I am when it comes to this. But it's wearing me down. I'm really sorry if I come off as privileged or like a huge brat.

Basically, I don't have the proper credit to get a loan to fund my surgery. HOWEVER, I am coming into an inheritance (rather, my long-term boyfriend is) that will more than cover the cost of my top surgery. However, it isn't until January of next year.

January isn't a long time away compared to people who aren't as fortunate, who may not get the chance to get top surgery for a very, very long time. It's a solid, for sure date that I will have the money and I know I am very, very VERY lucky to be coming into that money. However, it's been eight years since I first started struggling with my gender, and I am really feeling the weight and burden of my condition. I'm trying to stay positive and make it to January, it's not like it's far, like I said, but it feels so much worse than five simple months away.

I came to ask if maybe, there would be any way that I could get an LGBT loan somewhere? I can provide proof of inheritance and all that jazz. It's just really stressing me out, and it's getting to a pretty bad point. (Though, I assure you, my life is not threatened)

I haven't gotten a quote from any doctors yet, save for Dr.Alter who was very rude and quoted me at 10,500 dollars, which I guess is really high.

Again, I don't mean to seem bratty or ungrateful-I know I am very lucky and if all else fails I can make it to January. I would just prefer to finally lay this eight year burdon to rest and be able to move on with my life and go back to school.

I live in California, if anyone wants to recommend any good doctors for me.

Its unlikely if only for the fact that its not your inheritance.  Yes, you may believe that your relationship is rock solid but a creditor has no reason to believe so.  The boyfriend has almost infinitely more chance to get the loan and there are several inheritance cash advance services available, just do a google search.  It didn't come off to me as bratty or ungrateful.
Discord, I'm howlin' at the moon
And sleepin' in the middle of a summer afternoon
Discord, whatever did we do
To make you take our world away?

Discord, are we your prey alone,
Or are we just a stepping stone for taking back the throne?
Discord, we won't take it anymore
So take your tyranny away!

Honestly, I'd say wait until January! You don't even have a surgeon in mind yet so you'd have to do research, talk to different surgeons and then decide on a date, which wouldn't be next week anyway. That process in itself takes time.   It's already past mid August. January is under 4.5 months away. If you have bad credit, don't go for loans. The only ones you'd get wouldn't be great in terms of interest and you'd likely have to put up something substantial as collateral. And what happens if something happens between then and January that meant you didn't get the money too? If you've waited 8 yrs, what's 4.5 months?

I don't really understand something - have you spoken to a surgeon, had them assess you and acquired a date for surgery?

You keep saying January, but surgeons often have enormous waiting lists and you need to be getting a date sorted out now.  You can't just have the money and say "I think I'll have surgery next week" - it really doesn't work that way whether or not you have the money.

It's true, but it's hard to keep that mindset! I am sure I can wait, though. Just...when you have possibilities it's hard not to try to make them work.

This is always something I've thought about. The Boyfriend has, in fact, tried to apply for a loan (but he also has no credit) so I can get my surgery early, but we got denied, which wasn't too  hard of a blow to me, since we'll for sure have the money is January. I'll look into cash advance places, thanks!

Also, thanks for letting me know this post didn't come off as ungrateful. I'm really nervous about seeming that way...

The Doctor that I spoke to, we had planned for me to make an appointment in January, but I never actually made one. I have done tons of research, but most of the surgeons that deal in larger chested guys are hella far away, so I was planning on settling for the guy in SoCal that I talked to. It turned out that he was charging me an outrageous amount of money, and I have heard from friends that he has terrible bedside manner. Why I asked for any decently priced surgeons in California was because I want to make my appointment right away.

Wait til Jan. If you don't have any kind of credit, you're going to have to anyway. No one will loan you money without fairly good credit. Of course I suppose CareCredit might do fair credit but the rates are fairly high as credit is and if you make ANY mistake (like one late payment) your rates could go from 18% to 25-30%. That said it did save my cat's life. (A regular bank loan starts at about 9% and home equity is about 4-5%.)

I don't think you're going to need to worry about a really far in advance thing like Jan. I got an appt with Dr. Garramone 2 1/2 month in advance and might have gotten in a little sooner. Most doctors will charge you something to hold your place.

10K seems high to me though. Maybe I am totally wrong? Unless this is easy driving distance it doesn't much matter, imo, if you go out of state or half the country. If you book in advance air fare isn't a big deal. My plane ticket from NM to FL is less than $300, but I do have the ticket now. I'm sure if I wanted it a couple weeks in advance it would go up a lot. I understand though that keyhole costs more, so I haven't really been pricing this one. It's totally off my radar.

Not sure what she is charging? Also you live in CA and would it not be easier to buy a insurance policy? CA is one of the states that forbid insurance companies to exclude gender surgery.

I'm not sure Bowers does top surgery at the moment (ever?) - her FTM surgeries are all bottom focused AFAIK.

She's a gynecologist, and doesn't mention she does this. Never heard she does them either.  In CA I can think of Dr. Crane. He is a great guy, took over Dr. Brownstein's practice. But personally I would go to someone who specializes in peris and keyholes if you are that small.
