I was supposed to go a couple of weeks ago to see my therapists but due to work schedule I wasnt able to go.  I rescheduled for this Friday and am debating on how to dress. I am currently just part time staying mostly around my home.  I am strongly considering going to see her dressed as a woman.  I have a new pair of miss me jeans which I think I look pretty good in and a new top to go with them. I know with my facial features I prolly wont pass, but hey im going two hours from home to houston so I wont know anyone there.  I would really appreciate your opinion on this. Thank you

if your looking to show your serious as hell and want to avoid going through tons of are you sure sessions and wanna get by with the bare minimum I say go dressed as who you want to be and show your dedication.  I showed up to mine as a female every time.

Thank you Teela!!  I think that was the opinion I was looking for. I read where several others did the same thing as you.  I think I will just go all out and make it a full day if firsts in the city. .

Just go as you feel is the most comfortable. Also when you are there be honest and yourself. Do not try to think what they want you to say, just say how you feel.

Relax, deep breath and if 9in heels make you comfortable then so be it..LOL>>

I dont know about the heels..lol. a comfortable pair of sandals or flats suit me just fine.  Being open and honest is the only way I know to be. Just hoping I can get the hair and makeup to cooperate with me...lol

I've yet to go dressed up to my therapist ,and I got my letter on my second visit.  Therapists are able to detect who you are based on what you say and your overall character.  My therapist understands that I go to her to help me with my social fears about transitioning and being judged by society.  She would never expect me to go beyond my comfort level in order to appease satisfy her.  Plus, she knows that leaving my house dressed up is very hard due to my family.  The only goal she has is to progressively increase my comfort level and allow me to successfully transition. Your appearance isn't the most important factor.  Just go in comfortable and focus on what's important. 

If you are comfortable with going dressed, then please do so by all means.  You should go out looking female as much as possible once you are ready for that step.  So it doesn't hurt to begin with your therapist.  Good luck and keep us updated!

It doesn't have to be "all or nothing" either. I started out by mixing some more womens clothing with my male cloths.

For example I would have a woman's tee under my man's hoodie and men's jeans. I would have the hoodie open so the top was visible.  All that would be noticeable is that the neckline.  Over time I've built up from there.

I went fully female from the outset because I wanted to show them clearly that I was already comfortable that way.  It was also the push I needed to get out in public part-time at least once a week.  I started out this way with my new family doctor so this is the only way they know me.  I have not been referred to a therapist at all.  They sorta handled that themselves and concluded I didn't need any additional 'special attention'.  (I did attend a special support group program there prior though which helped me iron a few things out early on.)  It probably helped that this clinic has a dedicated LGBT-focused health program which is why I toughed-out a year-or-so waiting list to get in there.  It likely also helped that I'm quite sane, grounded and well-mannered both by any normal measure and relative to a number of the other patients.  Quite frankly I think the doctor was relieved to be dealing with me.

Hello Erin.
If I were you, I would go to my first appointment dressed in a way to be the most confident and calm as possible, since a first appointment is always making everyone nervous. Personnally, I went to my first appointment in short shorts and a tank top ,which were very feminine i would say, but the decisions they will take for you will not principally depend on your physical appearance. I would go for what I believe to be the most appropriate for me, to make sure that everything will happen as it is really supposed to be happening . The key is to be honest to yourself.
