Not sure where this goes - sorry if I've got the wrong subforum!

Today I went to Target and did possibly the most difficult thing yet. I've been purchasing feminine (or at least not very masculine - Target has a lot of blue shades) things for my bathroom. Well, today I decided I needed panties. I was probably in front of the Hanes display (4-packs) for 5 minutes. I found "XL" in some nice pinks & whites. I didn't even read to make sure XL fit me..... I also bought a nice purple plastic drawers for my office ("bedroom" right now while I'm on the outs at home).

The lady at the checkout was very nice. She said something like "that's a good price for all that stuff" etc. The first time is the hardest, I guess. It's really the other shoppers that look at you funny -- the employees are usually very polite.

Best part... they do fit. I'll be wearing these under boxers... I just wish the rest of me fit better!

For me a long, long time ago what i did was hold a list in my hands with what i wanted. Just a security blanket more then anything.

Glad they fit. One more step in the path forward.

Ah, the panic and rush of standing in front of that Hanes rack guessing sizes! Been there! Hugs, Devlyn

I once had someone ask if i was sure i was in the right department when buying panties, i just laughed and said "my wife broke her leg and sent me shopping" suddenly she went from condescending to very helpful in a heart beat.

I remember those days! Now no one ever turns  a head wither it's panties , bras or any female clothing for the mater.  Hopefully  I am passing better now.
I have been on estrogen and progesterone  for 24 years and sprio off and on but not for about 8 years. I have not totally transitioned yet but since  my breasts are very noticeable  36 I it is pretty much impossible not be seen as female. Just went full time. :) Yes I still do yard work!

It took me a while to build up the courage as well...but when I did buy makeup and feminine products I usually went very early and thru the self checkout at walmart to draw less attention.   Now I go into department stores and shop mostly in guy mode...it gets easier with time just keep at it and you will become a successful shopper:)

I went to a Walgreens around where I live to get some bathroom supplies like razors and bodywash etc. and the guy employee snickered at me. So I promptly asked to speak with his manager and long story short he got crap for snickering about it. I also worked with a girl that laughed at translady and she left the store.

Fact is employees are being paid to be tolerant if you dont like someone; buck up and deal with it... the world sucks. However getting used to the people that don't work is tough I usually just say "My girlfriend is sick and wants me to get her some stuff" since I haven't started hrt yet.

I guess it's mainly personality differences; my mom raised me to take no ->-bleeped-<- and were both self proclaimed "bitches" so if someone has a problem with me they better be ready for a confrontation.
You know I'd rather say nothing; and just be proud of myself for tearing down these walls.

I like nice things so I buy at quality stores which I guess makes it more plausible that I am buying as gifts. However since I normally go into town around the same day at the same time each fortnight or so I get the same cashier. I am pretty sure she cottoned on. Especially after I am wearing the coat I bought there. Oh well.

I'm currently big into mail order. Once I found my size by bumbling through the gauntlet that is the first time out shopping at a store then it was on.

I have a nice small wardrobe now. My wife even bought me a pair of bras today

My next step is make up. [cue deep breath] This is one where I am totally in the dark and am looking for help from my family.  ??? Hopefully since I only have 10 more days until a conference I won't look like a painted 6 foot tall scarecrow with a dress.  :o

But I'm an optimist... So maybe just a 6 foot tall new girl in a dress.  :D

I mail ordered a few things... needed panties!! Style is a long road, though... and an expensive one. I think what I ended up getting isn't exactly fashion conscious: the store "Woman Within" - I got a cranberryish colored skirt, olive green blouse, and a sale outfit capris and some sort of shirt. I'm more excited about the lilac crocheted Tom's shoes that I really hope fit. I'm not sure how well any of it matches, either... I don't have much else in lilac.

I'm really jealous. Incredibly so.

Why will you be wearing them under your boxers? Why not wear just them?  Just curious, and I don't mean to offend you if I did.
Don't judge a book by its cover! My lifes been like a country song! True love, amazing grace, severe heartbreak, buckles, boots n spurs! I 've been thrown off the bull a couple times, I keep getting up and dusting myself off! Can't give up on my happily ever after!

At first? Nerves... also using the toilet. I try to use the private bathroom (we have one in the building) but it's not always available.

I think tomorrow I may go panties only - but it's work... I'd hate for anyone to see!

What I've discovered is that if you try your best to act rather normal about it, people won't stare for too long. They'll assume something normal (whoa, that woman isn't exactly lucky - I first thought it was a man! ... or pssh, poor guy, his wife is even making him buy her panties ... something like that) before long.

Also, about sizes, I'd say that women's sizes are slightly, but not very, smaller than men's. My Small male boxers are on the big size even though they still fit, and the Small girl's underwear fits quite well.

And seriously, don't worry about people seeing it. Just bring your pants down so they're inside them, simply. Not to mention that people don't usually look under the stalls.

That's some really good sizing advice!

That's my plan... but accidents happen. There are safe places, though... safe stalls, etc.

When the OP said she is wearing the panties under boxers, I took that to be like a lot of young girls do as a popular fashion style even in public I've seen.

You know I just use the sit down stalls and sit down to do my business. Those stalls are always private and at least at my work place are very clean.

when I first bought panties I'm surprised I didn't trip and fall into the display since I was so nervous, coming back to the display like 3 times before grabbing a pack

so silly looking back at it
