Questions about my hairline

Hello everyone! This is my first post here so I guess I'll say hello by asking a question.

My hairline has receded a bit around the temples. The hair is still there but it's mostly the tiny white ones, with a few hairs grow normally within the patch though. My hair loss started around a year of less ago so I have high hopes of correcting it.

I started spiro and estrogen less then a month ago and was wondering if this would do anything for my hair. Should I expect any improvement with only the two? I'm not opposed to adding something else to the mix for the hair loss but I'd like to keep expenses down as much as possible.

Any in site would be much appreciated. I haven't been able to find any info regarding the use of spiro and estrogen only.

I use minoxidil, which isn't supposed to work on any area other than the bald spot on the crown. I have no clue if it has but something has; I had no hope of good results from a hair transplant before HRT.  I felt I was doomed to wear a wig.  I was seriously folliclly challenged – like shiny on top and thin on the sides.  Now, it is debatable if I will even need a hair transplant.  My hair is thicker than it was when I was 24 which was 27 years ago.
To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

HRT does help the hairline in some cases, but not all.  It is about counter-acting the effects of DHT, which is derived from testosterone.

Minoxidil has been suggested by JLT1.

You also might consider finasteride or dutasteride.

Minoxidil works also in the front at the receding hairline. I take it since 9 months with some success. I later started with Dutasterid (Avodart) which should help me because I did not started HRT right now. If you already are taking Spiro it may be unnecessary to take Fin or Dut. Please ask you doc.

But even with this medication I recently had a hair transplantation to fill my temples.

In most cases damage will stop and what fell recently will come back at least partially. Though if you want to make sure or if you have a pretty fast evolving case, there's finasteride and dutasteride. Those "big guns" will ABSOLUTELY ensure that no further damage is done, and maximize regrowth.

But yeah, if your testosterone is appropriately assassinated by spiro (check your blood levels!), chances are that your hair will go back to normal.

It still wasn't really visible to others, but before I started HRT, my hairline had progressively masculinized itself a bit since the beginning of my puberty. It was starting to have a bit of an M shape, with small bays forming on the "corners".

But now, I look at it in the mirror closely, and the bays have filled in, and they're now just areas of thinner, shorter, younger hair. My whole hairline has also advanced a little, which I guess means I wasn't hallucinating my forehead growing higher. My hairline has also become rounder. It was roughly square before, but now it's much rounder. The hair in the "bays" is still pretty light, though, so of course the corners are still a bit visible, but I'm actually hoping to have a completely female-looking hairline eventually.

Is there any time limit for any success with regrowth with no T? I've got those two deep corners or "bays" as you call them which have had nothing for a few years now, and my T has only recently been pushed down sufficiently.

Otherwise I appear to have caught thinning in the nick of time, and my hair is getting thicker now.

Hair transplant is always an option down the line, just something I'd like to avoid if possible.

"Yes."

There is a time limit. Basically, the last believable explanation I read was that follicle death has two stages. One, it becomes too weak to produce a hair. Two, it dies. I believe it can be salvaged until it reaches stage two.

Now when is that stage reached? I don't have the slightest idea. Is it even a relatively set time? Though I think it's safe to say that you probably won't have full recovery if you've had that for "a few years". Partial recovery, certainly. What percentage? Mystery. Though since you're in a situation where full recovery isn't likely, I think it would be wise for you to consider fina/dutasteride if you want maximum results. It probably won't be dramatic, but if you feel just a little 5 % bonus would be good, then maybe it would be good.

As a possible bonus, from some readings on the forum, a while ago I learned that there's a possibility that maybe those medications help with body hair. Note the uncertainty. I'm really eager to hear from a doctor or patient with first-hand experience though.

Seems like a question for my endo who I'll conveniently be seeing later in the week.

While there's no normal head hair in those "bays", there's hundreds of tiny tiny white hairs....
