Shaving armpits for surgery?

Do I need to shave or trim my armpits before I go in for surgery?
They're a bit bushy :/

I had to do that + if I had hair like on my cheast and such. but I didnt at that time.

I shaved mine as per my surgeon's request. It was a little annoying, but in the long run I was fine after.

Depending on if this is the bilateral... with those sometimes they have to go up to that area and you will have to or else will be clean-shaven. It's not worth the risks of infection to keep them (but really, don't think they would permit it for the same reason). Best to handle it yourself, IMO. They'll grow back quick enough.

I don't think we'll pass each other, you are 20 days before me.

Anyway I would do it if you are getting a double incision even if they don't tell you to. The bandages will cover you and stick to hair. So do the chest too, if you have chest hair.

I did not shave and was not told to. But when I came out of anaesthesia my pit and chest hair were magically gone.

Another Garramone guy!

I wonder what percentage of top surgeries done in the U.S. are done by him nowadays?  It seems like he does the majority of them, but of course that could just be my perception since he is doing mine.

Top surgery is now his sole procedure.  He told me he does 15-16 a week.

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Well he does 500+ a year. It must be some kind of record. And I don't know what else he might do.
(he must take some weeks off?!) There are other surgeons who must do a lot of them too, but quite a few of them do other procedures as well. I think one thing it says its that there a LOT of transguys, because I am pretty sure MOST top surgeries are not done by him even though he does lots of them.

I didn't because nobody told me to and it didn't cross my mind. Awoke to find them shaved. You should probably do it yourself xD

I trimmed my pits in advance for the sake of hygiene since I knew washing would be tricky after. Did nothing to the chest as it hadn't been brought up. When I woke, they had shaved my chest, but pits were as before.

Actually, now that I'm 2 weeks post op, the regrowth of my chest hair has probably caused me the most discomfort  thus far. ._.

So I intended to trim back a bit before the big day but in my stress fuelled rush I forgot.

It doesn't look like my pits have been touched. I have a post surgical binder on and the bandages are inside that so there's no sticky stuff to worry about. I am a little concerned about hygiene but I'll cross that bridge when i come to it.

That is an amazing number.  Honestly, I had no idea there were/are that many trans men in just the US alone.  Considering how many my Aussie surgeon does, too - it's amazing to know that we are pretty much everywhere.

I'm walking around the hospital and I have a lot more movement than I expected in my upper body.
I'm feeling pretty good. Looking forward to having a peek, should get a little look tomorrow

Be careful re: reaching and stretching out the scars. Listen to your doctor and be a good boy. LOL,
