I have been reading a few articles that suggest being left handed is much more common in transgender individuals in comparison to the general population ( percentage wise of course ). Being left handed myself, this interests me, but I still have to question the validity of the article. So I guess one way to find out is to conduct a poll. If you have any thoughts on the matter please feel free to discuss :)

Haha, good one. What if you can see and do things both ways? I like having the best of both worlds. being in the right mind as you say, as well as right handed.

I'm right-handed, and that's what I voted, but I'm more ambidextrous than your average right-handed person. Like, I can't write like crap with my left hand, but there are many things I'm definitely able to do pretty well with my left hand. Like, if I'm cutting ingredients, I'll often switch hands because one is getting tired.

I do the same thing, but I can write with my left. Maybe not as neat as my right hand but I can still do it no problem. There are plenty of things i do better left handed than right. The wierd thing was, I didnt start doing things with my left hand until middle school.

Love it! I hope you don't mind if I steal that joke sometime :)

Hmm, so far it looks to be pretty close to 50-50. That is very interesting.... it's about 10-90 in the general population. Now of course this poll isn't scientific and it's been up less than a day... but still :P

I'm left handed. :) I was always told as a child I got it from my grandma.

Oh my this is starting to lean very heavily towards left handed. This surprises me to be honest, I thought it would be as far as 50-50, but not a greater majority.

I am horribly left-everything.  My right side is merely cosmetic.

Interesting results so far.  There is a Meyer-Briggs poll around here somewhere, the results there were tremendously skewed from the population-at-large.
I'm very uncoordinated with my right hand as well, the only thing I can operate with my right hand is a mouse and keyboard.  :P

Strangely none of my relatives to my knowledge ( with the exception of my brother ) are left handed. It's possible that way far back they were and it just skipped a generation though.

Archeologists and cultural anthropologists have looked at the "strikes" on the stone tools of primitive humans and determined that there were as many left-handed strikes as right-handed strikes.  That can be interpreted that primitive stone tool makers were ambidextrous, or there were as many lefties as righties.  But we know today that righties outnumber lefties by about 5:1.

So, why did Nature select against lefties?

(BTW: My father, 1 sister, and brother are lefties.  My mother, 1 sister, and me are righties.)

I don't think it was Nature as much as superstition.

From: http://www.anythinglefthanded.co.uk/lh-info/myths.html

QuoteFor thousands of years, the Devil has been associated with the left hand in various ways and is normally portrayed as being left-handed in pictures and other images. In the seventeenth century it was thought that the Devil baptised his followers with his left-hand and there are many references in superstitions to the "left-hand side" being associated with evil. As an example, in France it was held that witches greet Satan "avec le bras gauche" or with the left hand. It is also considered that we can only see ghosts if we look over our left shoulder and that the Devil watches us over the left shoulder.

The Latin word sinister, meaning "left, on the left side", has come to have negative connotations.

We've been fighting an uphill battle for a long time, lol. I know a few people who were literally forced to learn to write with their right hand in school, by having their left hand tied behind them so they couldn't use it.

Don't worry I didn't forget you! :) The "ambidextrous" option means you are equally skilled with both hands :)

Please don't tell me I am wasting transition money because I am right handed! ;D

I voted ambidextrous. I write right hand, paint left hand, play squash with either (used to REALLY annoy opponents as they couldn't play to a backhand). Use a scalpel with either and simultaneously. Can't type with either!

You may find that lefties are becoming more common as they are not now beaten by teachers for writing with the 'wrong' hand. I remember that very well! christian brothers were happy to surgically remove the left hand without anesthetic if you wrote with it when I was a young girl.

This probably explains my ambidextrous ability rather than any innate ability!

Without being totally crass :embarrassed: What hand to you use to utilise toilet paper? :embarrassed:

I'm predominately right handed.. But there are many, many things I can do with either hand. Like Cindy, use a scalpel is one of them - although not on a human. I use them for boning poultry.

MaybeJake

I'm ambidextrous, but I consider myself left-handed, since I tend to do things more with my left hand. And my right-handed hand-writing is rather hideous. Legible, but ugly.

I do most things with either hand except brushing my teeth.I have 2 computers running at the same time  use left hand on one mouse right hand on the other just reverse what fingers I use on the wheel and click.Still get confused by the keyboard though, always type on the wrong one!
