Transgender teen goes for homecoming king crown
Hopkins MN, September 28th

A member of the homecoming court at a Minnesota high school is breaking social barriers.

He is a transgender teen running for homecoming king.

"For me, I just feel like I was born into the wrong body," said transgender high school student Jae Bates.

Bates is a senior at Hopkins High School in Hopkins, MN. Born female, he's up for homecoming king. He started to make the switch his junior year.

"Over the past couple of years, I've been able to find who I am and the high school is so accepting of that," said Bates.

It wasn't meant to be, but to be accepted, considered and to be himself. Bates feels like not all is lost.

"We were tying to make history in Minnesota, so really I think we were the winners regardless," said Bates.
