So, I want people to get peer pressured into subscribing SP but I'll be darned if I can get anyone to tell me why my little badgey thing isn't showing up and I want it to show because then freeloaders will feel like they need to chip in! Can someone please, please help with this?

Donate and get the awesome blue badge! Hugs, Devlyn

Nono... I already subscribed, I just don't see the badge.

I knew what you meant. Although it should be said, a badge can be had on the cheap, any donation of at least the recommended minimum earns a beautiful blue Donators badge. I figured your badge would be fixed by now, we'll keep bumping your thread until it's fixed! Hugs, Devlyn

Sorry to intrude on the thread, but I had some related questions.

May we also opt out of the badge if we donate?   I can't subscribe at the moment, but I should be able to at least donate.  Still, I don't want to have the marker if I can avoid that because I'm a weird annoying radical hippie, lol.

Also, can we donate with a visa gift card. I like to avoid using my debit card online as much as possible.

If both those options are possible, give me a chance to get my lazy self around to getting a gift card and I'll donate shortly.

P.S.  Again, sorry for intruding with my questions.  And congrats Victoria on your blinged out marker, lol.

I'd just try the gift card, if Paypal doesn't like it, it will kick it back.

I'm wondering about the 'not wanting the badge'? I ask only because this place was invaluable to me when I started and I feel that there's a lot of us who've been helped by this place and I think that has a debt that I'd at least like to encourage people to put something towards, if they can. The badge, while a bit loud for my tastes, is certainly a reminder to others that people *do* donate to this site and that we should probably at least consider making it a priority to do so if we can.

Just my thoughts but I was wondering what your objection to it is?

For a lot of people, they know that not everyone can afford to donate or subscribe for whatever reason and feel that the badges are a kind of shaming or "I'm better than you" or "Why don't you care about this site, I do, see I have a badge."  There's also the feeling that what you are doing is less selfish if you aren't rewarded or publicly recognized in any way for your donation.  Kind of like people who donate to charities anonymously.

If I remember correctly, Susan made a post about not shaming people for not donating.  I feel your original post is creeping fairly close to that line.  Don't know if that's what you intended.

Discord, whatever did we do
To make you take our world away?

Discord, are we your prey alone,
Or are we just a stepping stone for taking back the throne?
Discord, we won't take it anymore
So take your tyranny away!

There's no shaming in having a badge. If there is, someone better recall all those rainbow flags, shirts, and hats. Plus, a Donator badge is issued if you make a $1 donation, if I recall. Hugs, Devlyn

Oh don't take my comments to say that someone is trying to shame by wanting a badge or that they are shaming by having one.  Just explaining the motivation behind some people's feeling behind not having a badge

Victoria,

You gave money and should feel proud.  You earned the badge and the right to display it.  This site is very helpful and I'm incredibly lucky to have such a resource.  I just don't want to have a badge, that's all.  Please let's not open a debate on the merits of the badge.  It's an individual thing and people should feel proud to carry it if they elect to.  I just wanted to know if it were possible to not take one if I wish because I'd rather not have it.  That's all.

Again, please let's not turn this into a debate about the direction of the site.  Susan has made a good post about this in the past and I respect her decision.  After all, think of everything she has done and continues to do for us.  She's awesome even if she is a bit like the mysterious oz for most of us, lol.

I know the donations can be done anonymously or you can be up on the wall.

I don't remember, buuuut, I've noticed people asking to have them turned on, perhaps if a person never asked.....

I just don't feel like I deserve mine.  I only got it for doing a favor.

It's cool. I was really just asking what the reasoning was. I don't have hidden motives. They complicate things.
