Ciao all,

Sorry for the various questions, but I wanted to ask these things without posting all over the boards; therefore, I consolidated it into this one third.

Question 1.  Can you take diet pills while on hrt?  I'm not fat, but I could stand to lose a little extra weight.  I'd like to be fairly thin so I could feel better about myself and feel encouraged to start shopping for new clothes.  I'm starting work in a week and want to wear andro-professional clothes that will fit my job, but I want to feel good in these clothes.  Now, I realize dieting and exercise work, which I am doing (one meal a day most of the time), but I want to make it go faster.  My main fear is this will someone counteract with the hrt or effect breast development.  So does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Question 2.  How much does laser in general cost?  From what I gather it would be around $200 for a session to remove facial hair.  What about the entire body?  Also, how many sessions usually are required.  At this time, I don't think I can do more than my face (which I will be starting very soon), but I wanted to see what the overall price is.

Question 3.  For those of us to poor to afford laser on our bodies, do you have any suggestions for hair removal?  I have to shave all the time to get rid of stubble and it pisses me off.  today I nicked myself bad and it looked like a horror show in my bathroom.  I'm sort of tired doing this all the time just to keep the hair off.  Any thing else you can suggest?

Question 4. I hate my hair and it plagues me everyday.  Whenever I get out of the shower, it gets all wavy or frizzy.  Even if I use a blowdryer, it still is very frizzy and messy.  The only time it looks good is when I straighten it or shower at night and wake up.  For some reason showering my hair only makes it wavy or frizzy and nothing but straightening it can calm it down.  I try to use anti frizz serum (biosilk to be particular) but that leaves my hair looking too oily and it doesn't last, especially on a hot humid day. Any suggestions?  I would just get a wig, but I want nice long hair.  If it helps my hair is down to my chin on the sides and is close to reaching my shoulders in the back.

Question 5.  How much would ffs cost if you just got your brows and nose done?  I probably won't do this and couldn't afford it, but I want to see if I can save it up.  Everyone tells me I have no need for this and my face is fine, but for my own piece of mind I am considering it. So, if you could give me the average price, I would appreciate this.

Sorry for all the questions here.  I'm just frustrated and want to look and feel my best.  And for those who mention self esteem issues, I'm aware.  Believe me, I am.  I'm seeing my regular doctor on monday for some help for anxiety problems and then my therapist later that week as well (had to cancel today because I lost my keys).  In the meantime I want to see what I can do to feel better about myself and like how I look and who I am.

Thanks.

I hope that I can help:

1. Diet pills shouldn't effect HRT. BUT do go over it with you doctor first. You don't want to not eat and lose so much weight that you become physically unstable. That and beware of any weight loss program that has a side effect of blood clots and or heart issues. HRT already puts us at a higher risk for those.

2. Laser cost is different between shops, areas of the nation, and parts of town. I've seen some people people get 3-6 treatments for $300 by using coupons. Others pay thousands to finish the job. Still others use the at home devices sold more cheaply than a single session of laser. Ask Teela and Emily for advice on what they use at home. I'm a reddish blonde so electrolisys for me :(

3. At home laser or find a school of electrology/laser and see about getting on their schedule so that students can practice on you.

4. What are you doing exactly to dry your hair. Some folks need to blow dry it in a certain direction. Also as it gets longer it will eventually be more behaved.

5. FFS like any medical procedure is price negotiable. So much like the answer for question 2 it really just depends on where you go. Here in Georgia that much FFS... Surgeons time, OR time, fees, supply charges, bed and board charge and whatever else the facility throws in will likely cost the same as me just flying to Thailand twice and getting GRS, BA, a nose job, and trach shave.

6. Because you didn't ask. How can I pay for all this? Why, you can look into a medical loan. They are generally low interest loans while "yes you do have to pay it back" it does give you the option of getting it done now so that you can move on with your life and enjoy the body that you want now while paying it off over time.

1.  Yeah, I know not to go overboard.  I just want to make sure I'll be safe.

2.  Yeah, I hear different things between different people.  $300 for a few sessions sounds really cheap.  I wouldn't mind doing that at all.  Is that for everything or just the face?  However, I always hear it's like 200 bucks for just one facial session.  If I can get it for much cheaper and get my body hair, I'd be very happy.

3.  I'm doubtful on home laser.  It doesn't see like the greatest alternative.  But I can't stand shaving all the time.

4.  I try different things on different days.  All of them lead to the same results.  I'm fine with a straightener and some product, but otherwise it's frizzy and wavy throughout the day.  The next day everything is more relaxed and nice looking.

5. It's doubtful I could ever afford FFS, but I wouldn't go overboard.  If I got it, it would be just the brows or maybe my nose.  Again, it's not really neccesary in my case, but I really want things to be as perfect as possible.  Still, it's probably not possible which is why I'm looking into the price.  I can't imagine those two things would cost 20,000 or something, but maybe.  I'm in NY and wouldn't travel to far, if that helps.

6.  My only shot of paying for things is using the income that I will have.  I start work in a week and will be saving up for everything in conjunction with paying all the bills I have.  I won't be rich, but at least I can start investing more in my transition.   Invest little by little is the plan.

I'm in the same boat with Question 2&3, I hate my facial hair and arm hair. I want it GONE! Pricing seems to be all over the place so I'm not sure what's best. I'm hoping that my therapist that I will see next week with have some contacts and such for me to get in touch with.

On question 4, I'm just like you I love and hate my hair to death because of the same reasons. My hair stylist tells me to wash my hair, then use a SMALL amount of anti-frizz product, style then don't touch it again until it is beyond dry because of how darn frizz prone my mane is. Touch it when it's wet and bam you now have a tumble weed on your head :embarrassed: I have also noticed that if I use a round brush it helps out a ton to reduce frizz. To bad I can't carry one around in guy mode :( I actually call my hair triangle hair since that's what it looks like most of the time when I screw up and mess with it too much. The new hair is in great shape and relatively frizz free but the old hair that has been highly damaged from working around some nasty chemicals for 3 years not too long ago and the fact that I work in a rooms that are climate and humidity controlled to around 75% at all times for the last 7 years so I'm always stuck in a high humidity situation. From what I can tell about 1/4 of my hair is in pretty good shape the rest is a lost cause and will eventually get chopped off as time goes on and trimmings come and go.

I recently started using John Frieda Frizz-Ease product line and have had some of the best results to date for me "everyone is different after all and respond in different ways to products". I also have been shampooing only twice a week and I might cut back to once a week as that seems to be helping. I work out 3 times a week and I sweat my rear end off in the process. By the time I'm finishing up the first mile on the treadmill my pony tail is a tumble weed arg. With the products I use I'm not running into any smelly hair by not shampooing and my hair doesn't look dirty or oily unless I go over board with the frizz products. I still use conditioner every morning when I take a shower just to keep my locks hydrated and I guess my natural hair oils get stripped out easily from using any kind of shampoo. It does seem like the things I'm doing now are paying off in healthier hair for the long run.

How does your mom's hair look? Is it the same way? I inherited my moms hair and so did my sister. We all fight the same fight lol :D and apparently I must be doing something right because she said she is jealous of how mine looks now.

Learningtolive you are still very young so you have plenty of time to get to where you want to be. I never thought I'd be able to buy a house and a brand new car when I was your age either but things have a habit of just coming together. So save your pennies, build up your credit score, and study hard so that you can build up some marketable skills now.

I know that you can do this :)

True.  I'm actually not upset at all by my economic limitations.  My new job is a blessing and will allow me to invest in my future.  I believe in working hard and making something out of oneself.  But at the moment, it is wise for me to recognize my limitations.  My family needs money and I'm happy to give whatever I can.  The rest will go into my transition fund, but I want to be wise about how and when I spend.  For now, it's about being frugal, saving up SRS money, and spending on what I can for the rest.

1)Diet pills.  I was taking Dexedrine prior to starting HRT.  It helped me take off about 60 pounds.  It's not officially a diet pill, I'm prescribed it for ADD.  My doc had no complaints in letting me continue, however, there seemed to be an incompatibility between E and Dex.  It made me feel nauseous and so forth.  I quit Dex for a while until I adjusted to E, then managed to restart albeit at 2/3 my previous dose.  Between E and Dex, I have trouble sleeping sometimes, so I have nearly quit Dex altogether. We looked at Fenteramine, but it's rather expensive and not covered by my insurance.  My GP didn't mention any conflicts with E.  Don't try the "Other" Fenteramine, it is dangerous stuff.

2 & 3) I have been using a Tria home laser, it seems to work on the colored parts of my beard.  Half of my beard is grey, laser doesn't touch that.  I got my Tria for $250 from a Craigslist ad, it seems to be well made, should last quite a while.  Spiro turned my torso hair vellus, but it was sparse to begin with.  I might get on Bicalutamide in place of Spiro which does wonders to eliminate body hair.

4) My hair is getting difficult, rather longish but not long enough to tie back.  I bought a styling gel today to help it stay back, Alas now I look like Little Richard...  I'll try different brands, maybe a mousse is what i need.

5) Don't know much anything about FFS costs, sorry.

Hope this helps.  I read a post that Cardenas in Mexico is good and has decent prices.

Styling gel is too thick for my hair.  I want to straighten it, but not make it look slick or greasy, if you know what I mean.  That's why I hate putting on some stand alone product after showering because it gets greasy and then still ends up wavy.  Maybe Straightening is the only way.  Or showering at night so the frizz and waves dye down.  I don't mind a little wave to my hair, but I like to have a more straight look.

The sort of diet pills I'm talking about are the ones you can find over the counter at CVS or something.  I probably don't need it, but I want to lose weight quickly.  I eat one meal a day, exercise and it's such a slow process.  Like I said, I'm really not heavy or anything, but I would benefit losing some weight.

Everything I've read about tria home products have been negative, but maybe I should give it a try.  I'm so sick of shaving and can never quite get rid of all the stubble.

Don't worry about the FFS.  I'll probably never get it done and truthfully probably don't need it.  Everyone tells me that I worry too much and my facial features are feminine, but these are things that I'd like done for myself in an ideal world.  I guess so I don't feel too awkward about my own appearance.  But I'm going to sit on it and just llok up the costs in the meantime.  Mexico?  Eh... don't see myself going there anytime soon.  I'm willing to travel for SRS, but if I did FFS, it would have to be on the eastcoast.

I've used frizz ease in the past.  It's an okay product but it has to be used at the right moment.  But it works well for frizz and isn't too greasy in the right amount.  Still, I hate the out of shower waviness.   I'm going to cut back on my shampoo use as well because I notice my hair looks nicer a day after I wash my hair, especially the ends.  I guess our hair is super sensitive to shampoo and it rids us of all the natural oils.

My mother and one of my sisters have great hair.  My other sister doesn't have the greatest texture, but she works with it till  it looks good.  They all have pin straight hair, but they tend to straighten like me.  Without it, they have the slight wave I have.

Hey LL

I can help with the frizzy hair. Buy a really good moisturizing shampoo that's sulfate free. That's the stuff that makes suds in soaps. It's bad for all hair types because it strips it of natural oils. Try Wen hair products if your feeling cheap try Dr. Miracles conditioning shampoo. Try doing a hot oil treatment with a good hair oil about once a month. And remember to use lukewarm water when rinsing and if you can cold for final rinse. Try this out and you'll see a difference.

Thanks.  I'll give it a shot.  I've been wanting to try a hot oil treatment for a while.  Yeah, I have a tendency to use hot water.  I suppose I need to deal with the cold.

Ah that's a bummer that Frizz Ease didn't work for you or at least help out some. I see the same thing with the day after a wash, I guess we just need to go around with "dirty" hair for it to look good. I think I'm going to start shampooing just once a week now to see what results I get. For a long time I wanted perfectly straight hair but I've given up on that as I don't want to use heat products and mess up my hair from over usage of them. If my hair would get down to about half way down my back it would be perfect for the mild curliness/waviness that my hair has. Sometimes you have to do what your hair dictates you to do.

Have you asked them what all they do to their hair? Care, regime and such? They might have some good tips since they've been at it a lot longer and have most likely tried tons of product over the years before they found stuff that works for them.

Same boat here, I love a nice warm shower. It's hard to turn it down to a bearable cold/lukewarm temperature but if it helps it's a un-comfortableness that's worth enduring! I've done a few home remedy hot oil treatment and never saw much out of it, I think I should try some of the pre made store bought ones and see what happens.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a natural wave to my hair if it were longer.  But at its current length, it's just annoying.

Frizz-ease does work, but it has to be used at the right moment.  Not when my hair is too wet and not when it is too dry.

I'll try washing my hair in cold water and give it a shot.  I did try it once and felt I had decent results, but the temp is frustrating.

Yeah, some shampoos are really abrasive.  I'm just going to use less throughout the weak.  I've attempted the no-poo method, but that just makes me feel a bit unclean.
