The best person to ask about side effects of a treatment is probably your doctor. One single person's anecdote might not be much information to go on, while your doctor might be able to tell you the range of possible side effects, as well as how likely/severe they are.

Postoval is Estradiol valerate..

Semi-correct. Postoval is manufactured by Aspen Pharmaceuticals, in southern Africa. Wyeth also manufactures this medication. Lets break it down, shall we?

It is a combo of estradiol and norgestrel.

Norgestrel is a progestin used in hormonal contraceptives. Norgestrel is a mixture of two stereoisomers, dextro-norgestrel (CAS# 797-64-8) and levo-norgestrel (CAS# 797-63-7). Only levonorgestrel is biologically active. Therefore, while some medications may contain dextronorgestrel, they are often labeled in terms of their levonorgestrel content only, ignoring the inert isomer. It is used in the hormonal contraceptive Microgynon 30, among others.

I think the OP most likely lives in South Africa, or is self medicating from an over seas purchased form of contraceptive....:/

I could be wrong on both accounts, but yes, Postoval is a combo of 17beta and a progestin utilized to increase and deter shedding of uteral walls. Odd it would be utilized for mtf HRT purposes, tbh, but the endo may have specific reasons.

Which leads into the question: why are you being switched, and do you have concurrent lab work with lsh and fsh levels, if Im not being too questioning? Pituitary problems? Thats another possibility to this medication.

*****Keep this in mind before and as you read further:However, I am not your personal medical professional, so take what I have said at face value if it contradicts yours!*************

Just know that...

The best advocate for your own health is yours, and you should always conduct your own research on things, to present to your care provider if they are unfamiliar with Trans* or IS issues, and hormonal treatments.

Edit: I want to further note that this form of progestin (see:not all estrogens and progestins are the same beast with same breakdowns), is utilized in certain and rare cases to treat PCOS where the professional wants to delineate cancer and rule it out by measuring the pattern effects of polycystic growth on ovaries; because non cancerous cysts slow growth from this particular progestin in a majority of cases.

This particular medication if aquired via legal routes, atleast in the U.S., should have came with a little pamphlet of warnings, precautions, side effects, and long term risk and exposure as well as common useages as well as doseage levels, by law.  It is a highly uncommon medication within the U.S. to recieve, atleast for cross sex hormone therapy! Norgestrel can be commonly bound with estradiol cypionate as well as ethynl estradiol, depending on its purpose.....

I could go on and on with other things, but Im sorry, I am somewhat in awe and in a questioning state to the usefullness of this particular medication in mtf hrt. Most of us dont have ovaries or uterus', and those IS of us that do, would never be prescribed this medication in our treatment either, due to the fact if we had PCOS we would most likely be on an entirely different forum altogether.

It is also utilized to help relieve symptoms of heavy flow, from endometriosis......

Sorry if this sounds harsh, I dont mean it to, and I am aware you may be in Southern Africa where this is a bit more  possibly utilized in cross sex hormonal therapy. Its a rare one, here in the states though ( if EVER used for mtf hrt!!!!) Def. worthwhile raising your eyebrows to with a few select questions to your provider, doll!

This could be catastrophic in a self medicating scenario, wayyyy more so then other meds, as it is a sister drug to that Diane contraceptive!

Please re read myvery last sentence right above this, and know that this particulair medication is specifically designed to be a contraceptive to the point its very own blister packs are cycle oriented in color.  I will say no more due to the fact that for a contraceptive, it is very simulair to Diane in that it has a high level of estradiol for a contraceptive, and a progestin that, in a male bodied individual, could make one very very sick.

I really recommend contacting your care provider and questioning their useage of this medication. I am aware we should not advocate for/against meds in here, but really, this is a thread I suggest be deeply analyzed for my mentioned reasoning.  If any admins want medical refernces, let me know, and I will back the above in full from the perspective of a medical professional. * Note:a strong relative contraindication of this medication is known depression which is an effect of of dysphoria in the majority of cases.*

I felt a medically nessecary need to address this thread and the dangerous info that this is solely estradiol valerate, as it looks more to me as self mecication questionable material then anything any competent medical provider would ever prescribe for mtf hrt without a very direct, noted, informed reason and discussion with their patient on why.

You may have accidentally gotten somone elses script, as well, which happens more then people realize. Call your medical provider asap and cross check you were meant to recieve this medication, please!
