My endo reckons the effects are cumulative after a few years. That eventually I'd need less, not sure how that would work.

To be honest, I don't know what the dose of the pellet was although the endo told me it would last six months. I'm still on Spiro and Provera, but I was told I could stop with another E pill and an E gel he had me using. He said I should notice more change on the pellet because it's going right into the system... time will tell! He doesn't need to see me for three months and that will be just for a check up and blood tests.

@LORDKat... as Cindy says, I am indeed another gorgeous Aussie sheila ;D

I'd be tempted by the pellet thing if I weren't so scared of needles and surgery. Ironic, yes, I know. :)

Well, I went in today and had everything done.  The 'surgery' is really very minimal.  Yes, I won't lie it did hurt a little, but hey a little pain is worth it :D  I'd rather have the pain of a 1 time minor insertion surgery ever 3-4 months than deal with stomach pain from orals everyday.

Okay, so it's been 13 hours since my appt. with Dr. O'Dea and I just wanted to post my results for those who were interested!

Dr. O'Dea himself:  Okay so I get what JennyGirl said, this guy is kind of a rebel and an individualist, and does like to shoot the breeze and get to know his patients personally.  Some may find this off-putting.  For me, it was right up my ally!  I really liked his personality, and found it charming.  His way of working things is maybe a little bit different from some other methods, but results don't lie- this guy knows what he's doing.

Pellets VS Orals:  I'm noticing that the levels being constant has helped me EXTREMELY.  After talking to him and doing a little research (and talking to medical professionals in the family), I realize now WHY taking orals gives you mood swings.  It's because even taking under the tongue, the E pills only stay in your bloodstream for 4 hours tops.  Even if you're taking 2 or 3 doses a day, that still leaves the better part of the day where your levels are at almost nothing.

I stopped the orals cold turkey before going in.  Had my last oral 20 hours ago, and had pellets injected 12 hours ago. Normally if I was late on taking the orals by this time I'd be a basket case of anxiety and have a huge upset stomach.  I only slept 5 hours over the night and woke up very happy and bubbly.

I got the highest dose Progesterone shot, and my nipples are already getting puffy and sensitive.  True, some of that may be the orals I've been on for almost 2 weeks, but the Progesterone seems to have pushed things along a bit faster already.

The Price:  I won't lie, the first visit is quite expensive as you have to pay for the consultation / dr. visit.  However, I did do the absolute maximum that he was willing to do.  And also, w/o insurance, it's not too much more than what I'd pay for orals.  If you can afford it though, go for it!  My reasoning was that I would much rather try a safer, more effective hormone method in hopes I wouldn't have to pay through the nose for electro and top surgery.

Overall:  Can't recommend this method enough.  Sure, it is a lot of money, but as I mentioned previously I'd rather spend more money on a safe and more effective way of doing hormones than having to go through more surgeries later.  I realize I still may have to do surgeries as almost everything with transisitiong is YMMV, but for me the price of admission is worth it just for the mood change alone.  Taking orals I felt like my female self for a few hours and those male traits would slowly start to creep back in.  Now I feel completely female all the time, and I'm loving it.

Thanks JennyGirl for all the info, I really am glad I went in!

Great to hear!

For me, two days in, everything is so far so good. Been feeling calm and well natured, even despite trains being in upheaval (again) for the journey home after an exhausting day.

BTW, the surgery is so minimal I hesitate to even call it surgery, except I needed a local and two stitches. Over in a few minutes.

Mine was the same place as Grace's, upper left buttock.  It really is a surgery, though a minor one.  The definition of surgery is cutting open tissue, so technically yes this is surgery.  I wasn't charged a surgical fee though.

Mine is super itchy today, I can only presume that means it's healing up nicely but gosh I want to scratch it to pieces just at the moment! Stitches can come out on Monday.

In my tummy.

Grace I get a terrible itch and it is sensitivity/allergy to the local pain killer, go to the chemist and get some cortisol cream and rub it on. You will need it each time!

Hey!! I'm the OP here, just thought I'd bump with my 4 month progress in the first post!! Thought I'd put it there so it'd be easier for new ppl to read out of a search.

Glad to hear it is working out so well for you Kristina!

That reminds me, it is time to go in for my next round :)

I've been in such a good mood recently though that I almost feel like I could go a bit longer (I am at 3 month increments of 12 e pellets + 1 p pellet). I might be making it a 3.5 month dose for a while.

Also it is SO nice to be able to really call your own shots with this doctor. It's a bit like designing your body and mood and that is plain neat.

I am looking forward to seeing him, too... I haven't been in there since before my FFS! It's always a trip because he is so blunt, I never have any idea what he is going to say lol

I love my endo but unfortunately they don't offer pellets only pills and shots..

I'm going to use Dr. Odea as well.  I sent him an email on 2 different occasions and he always got back to me personally and very quickly.  One of my FaceBook friends uses him and swears by him. Only negative is big up front cost.

Yes, please!  I don't mind what I have going on now, but if I can idiot-proof things after the orchi, then by all means.
