The New Jersey Supreme Court on Friday denied Gov. Chris Christie's request to put a marriage equality ruling on hold while the [. . . ] court considers the appeal of a [. . . ] ruling in support of marriage equality.

The unanimous decision [. . .] means same-sex couples can begin marrying [. . .] on October 21.

The state will be have a full hearing on the merits, but decided to allow marriages to begin in the interest of the public and because they said it's unlikely the state will be successful in the argument.
