Ultimately, forgiveness is a selfish act. When we forgive we free ourselves from the bonds of anger and resentment that consume us and not the person we are angry at. They don't feel our anger, only we do. So when we forgive, we also shed having these angry thoughts. Let go of all that anger and life gets pretty nice. So I see forgiveness as something I do for myself, not for others. In this way, nothing is unforgivable.
In practicality, there are those who do not wish to be forgiven and will continue to harm us if we expose ourselves to them. Some may say that avoiding someone is not full forgiveness, it's holding a grudge. It is however a matter of opinion. I don't see many members of my family because they are toxic. I know they will harm me again if I let them into my life. I have forgiven them for past infractions, but I am not really interested in subjecting myself to more. To many this is not true forgiveness. Whatever it is, it is how I feel best. I don't hold any anger towards them, I don't dwell on them anymore and I don't allow them to harm me anymore. That is what works best for me.
I don't hate anyone or have any known enemies and to the best of my knowledge no one hates me or considers me their enemy. That is how I like it.
Love always,
Elizabeth
