I was buying automotive parts yesterday [hey, girls work on cars too!] and I was unequivocally 'en femme'.

I was looking pretty [and pretty fine, for utilitarian casual] and when I was checking out, the cashier 'sir'ed' me several times.

Well, I was in a semi-evil mood anyway [an all too familiar state, but I am working on this] and accordingly, the anger fired up instantaneously.

But still, I maintained a pleasant demeanor, completed the transaction got back into my car and proceeded on to my next stop.

But as I drove I was not thinking happy thoughts. My sleeveless overshirt was not buttoned and certain features were quite evident [that seems like a clue to me   ::)]. My figure is very nice at this point in time [notwithstanding the wide and strongly muscled shoulders and arms] and pretty much screams out "female!".

Trying to maintain it hasn't been much fun, though.

But anyway, with anger I thought to the effect,

"'SIR'?!? OK fine. Off comes the overshirt for the remainder of my shopping!  >:("

I was wearing a dark blue sleeveless compression top of very lightweight fabric [for heat rejection] and per doctor's orders was not wearing a bra.

I was out in public very briefly dressed only in this and my jeans [I had put my overshirt in my car while I rolled the shopping cart to the 'cart corral'] and suffice it to say that the local male populace took notice.

But as I drove and listened to my classical music, good sense returned and I demurred on this course of action.

But the cashier at the auto parts store was not doing the 'sir'ing' out of malice, for my ID's have not yet been changed over to reflect my new legal name and I have been a repeat customer over there.

I really need to do something about my anger and with my new therapist, progress looks imminent:) :)

A jerk by any other name is still a jerk.  I would choose another autoparts store at the least.  Plus getting that drivers license fixed would truly help

Take care Rhonda

It seems you may have been sending mixed messages resulting in confusion for the Clerk, it often happens during transition, and you didn't mention any malice on the part of the clerk.  The next time it happens you should correct the mistake immediately it occurs even it it happens on the phone.

Just my thoughts.
