My electrolysis mentiond that some of her clients had visited a nearby dentist for a complete numbing of certain areas of their face before electro treatment.

I just wonder if others have done this?

I may try it so she can move full speed with removal & I will not have any pain at all. It seems to be a smart move.

I only needed it when they did the upper lip. It workd super well. It a quite few dollars more but worth it.

Interesting.

I just have mine hit me over the skull with a hammer repeatedly until I pass out.

Seriously, though I have the benzo/lido/tetra -caine cream and it barely makes it tolerable.  And that's only the face I'm talking about.  I'm going to need something way better for downstairs, as it's almost unbearable there.

I love the people who dismiss this all as a "sinful lifestyle choice".  *facepalm*

Yea, I've heard the stories about downstairs. I'm not ready to think about that yet. Just want my face complete, asap.

Dental blocker? Sure :). For the first few upper lip sessions anyway. For the rest I didn't bother. It hurts, but it's not too extreme.

Got a jab from a Dentist for clearing my top lip the first time.  Not very expensive and he seemed quite amused by the reason!  Only got 3/4 through that time and went back to finish 3 days later with no pain relief at all.  Not sure how I managed that!  After that, tried Emla but since its water-based, it seemed to increase the reaction of my skin.  Moved to a lignocaine/tetracaine cream after that which really only takes the edge off the pain.  Much crying along the way.

Very thankful I am almost done.

Thanks to all. I'm going to schedule a visit to this dentist then my electro lady for her to go full speed on my upper lip. Last session I almost cried for sure. Other parts of the face were kind of easy. I had numerous laser treatments however this is my first electro. The lady is fast & professional & I do not want to slow her down with crying.

One question if I can. How long did it take for the area to become numb & ready for electro???
My dentist will do this I'm sure & her office is 30 minutes from the electro's salon. This might work out just right.

Thank you to all for help. Maybe I finally have a good plan for this electrolysis treatment stage.

Just plan what you'll do when the blocker wears off... The blocker only lasts for about 2.5 hours according to my dentist... and they were spot on for me. Given my dentist is also about 30 mins from my electrologist, that only gives me 2 hours at best. Each time I opted for a full clear of the upper lip, which took ~3-4 hours... Rather than leave it half done and trying to fit into everyone's schedules. Just means I cried a bit for the last hour or two.

I have a bunch of vicodin left over from when i separated my shoulder....my plans for electrolysis, if its needed, is to go in high as a satellite and hopefully not feel anything lol.

I have herd from others that a vicodin an hour before makes the face manageable, but no one said if it helps any when they visit Mexico to do the clearings down there.

Ummm...leave the pills in the medicine cabinet for when you actually NEED them and learn to relax into the pain. It will hurt (a little bit, less than a wasp sting) for about 5 minutes. After that the endorphins will kick in. Happy days.

Rosie.
Well that was fun! What's next?

Vicodin is useless for sudden acute pains like electro.  Save it for dull aches.

Sammy Rose, Thank you so much for your time & advise. I'm much better equipped on how to smartly handle this stage.

Well a 2 hour session for tomorrow morning, using some numbing cream 45 minutes in advance so she can start asap. Cream/lotion is made in Denmark & suppose to be the strongest cream available.

Hopeful to clean up more area, it's an ugly face right now for sure with 5 days of hair growth as she needed.

Upper lip, we'll try & see if a dental block is needed? If so I'll schedule that for next week.

This hair has to go away no matter what!!!

Before I started electrolysis i was prepared for pain and was suprise that I was able to endure it easily - the repitition of pain at a tolerable level is a facinanting experience. Yes, mabe its the endorphins that kicked in. I go twice a week for an hour and its been a long haul but the result has been very good. Go for it - and good luck

Thanks.

For now we schedule a 2 hour session every Saturday morning. The salon is quiet & my tech woman Sarah has no other appointments so she can concentrate on my face. We'll see how the pain goes on my upper lip area today, maybe I can tolerate it. If not I will get a block from my dentist & reschedule a visit for a mid week day.

I'm excited & I will be so glad to finally have a clean nice face.

EMLA needs to have contact for 1 hour for optimal effect, preferably with a covering to stop it from drying out.

Most dental anaesthesia will last about 3 hours so long as each injection is a full carpule, the most commonly one used being lignocaine.  If the dentist has bupivicaine, that can provide up to 20 hours, but does have some risks.

Thank you from the bottom of heart to all girl friends that have helped. Electrolysis is going well & soon within a few months I will have a nice clean face & never never have to shave any facial again. Oh happy day!

We are going to use small injections on lidocaine on the more sensitive areas. My electrolysis lady is experienced & comfotable with doing this for me. It is the same lidocaine as dentist use.

Thank you all again.
