I was looking for a topic like this and couldn't find one :( So I decided to start it!

List your favorite band, bands or musician and why!

Guess I'll start. ;)

RUSH - I don't listen to them like I used to but there's no doubt I would not be half the guitar player or have the musical respect I do if I never heard of them. All 3 guys in the band are extremely talented and kinda cute when they're together!

We Are the Union - Oh yess I'am addicted. It's like the most awesome fusion of punk and ska ever, with actually meaningful, inspiring lyrics.

Goo Goo Dolls - Oh yea could possibly be my favorite, I have every album and even though they've changed in terms of musical direction(as most bands do), they've always had a huge influence on me. I actually met Robby Takac at a Wendy's in Buffalo it was awesome he was so cool!

Seems like music is a part of most our lives here so don't be shy!

Alice in Chains: I just like most of their songs. Their sound is very appealing to me, and I find some of their songs to be very comforting in an odd sort of way. I have fond memories of driving around late at night with friends listening to AiC, especially the Facelift album.

The Birthday Massacre: Another band where I like most of their songs. I also like their overall style, both visually and musically. And I just like all the musical styles and genres that they blend together.

Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Tool: I group these bands together because I don't listen to them often anymore but they remind me of different people, places, and events in my past and I have a great respect for them as artists.

Depeche Mode: Just dig their style and sexy music. :)

Shiny Toy Guns: A band that I just ended up liking quite a lot. Most of their songs I'd hear randomly and ended up liking. One of those bands where it's like "oh yeah this is by them, oh and that one too, I like these songs!" Also, Carah-Faye.. <3

Pet Shop Boys: I really like their sound, and most of the songs I've heard by them, new and old.

In Flames: I don't listen to metal so much anymore, especially once it begins sounding the same, but I like most of their stuff. Very listenable, and some songs I truly love. They really bring me back to when I first came out to my friends. Nice mix of heavy and melodic.

The Misfits: I'll admit I don't like all their stuff, but I do like them overall. Especially Famous Monsters. I know, blasphemy right? ::) And for the record I find Michale Graves to be strangely sexy, so there's that. xD

I guess those are the only bands I can think of right now where I like most of their music. Otherwise it's just a sampling of songs from different bands or artists. I'd say M83 and Foster the People are starting to get up there for me though. :)

Nothing wrong with the Misfits, I haven't listened to them in a while but there cool and yeah ya know, he is kind of oddly attractive something about that face lol.

Oh another ADTR fan here! ;D I can't say I listen to any of there new songs but always loved For Those Who Have Heart.

I seriously find new bands to like every week, but I'm def kind of a big pop-punker and there's a lot of bands noone will ever hear of in that genre.

<3 Mike Patton :)

Me too. Mike Patton inspired me a LOT when it came to really working on my singing voice. I have a decent voice as long as I have plenty of water and I don't have a cold.

My favorite of all time is Pink Floyd, although I don't really listen to them much anymore. But I don't know who all my favorite bands are, it changes all the time. Some of my favorites are:

The Police
The Cars
GnR
Def Leppard
Metallica (not counting the period between Black and Death Mag.)
Duran Duran
Van Halen
Peter Gabriel (which I count as a band because his musicians are incredible)
^All this sort of stuff

I used to love Zepplin, but I can't listen to them anymore. I worked in music stores and listened to almost everything. Right now I mostly listen to Trance and Electronica. Stuff like Emma Hewitt and Jes. Or I listen to 80's metal and pop. Motley Crue, Cinderella, various one it wonders, etc. I love that stuff.

The band I've actually seen live the most is Linkin Park. I loved My Chemical Romance and even though I'm not into guys, I do kind of think Gerard Way is irresistible lol. Black Parade is probably my favorite album of the last decade. There's tons more but I'm not really as fixated on a single band anymore. Like where you listen to all the songs and learn all the words and stuff. I seem to be a lot less dedicated I guess. Or I'll just go pick up all their albums and be into them for a little while. Or I discover stuff like Pat Benatar or Joan Jett and get all into them for a little while.

Siouxsie & the Banshees
The Cure
Bauhaus

- I LOVE gothic rock. Although Siouxsie is more of a dancing happy music sometimes, Bauhaus and the Cure are really depressing and usually I like to listen to them when I am depressed so I can feel worse lol

Yes
Curved Air

- I have a crush on progressive rock and Close to the Edge is one of my all-time favorites ever!

The Doors

- Deep poetic rock rocks!

The Beatles

- I really don't like their first years, but with Revolver and Rubber Soul they won my heart forever.

Tristania
Sirenia
The Sins of Thy Beloved
Epica
Offertorium
Therion
Coronatus
Nightwish
Craddle of Filth

- I also LOVE gothic/symphonic metal bands. Metal mixed with classical music, siren-style operatic female vocals, males growlings and awesome deep and depressing lyrics! I can't listen to any of these bands without having an eargasm XD

Journey
Steppenwolf
Glenn Miller Band - I love swing music and big bands circa 1940's
Brooks and Dunn
Big and Rich
Whitesnake

Yeah I am eclectic in my music.  It really comes down to a particular song, not necessarily the group as a whole.

It does not take courage or bravery to change your gender.  It takes fear of living one more day in the wrong one.~me

I may be too old to reply to this...  ;) But I really love music...

My Favs are:
AC/DC - they just have a kick ass / feel good music, I listen to them when I clean house and not when I have to think.
Alice in Chains - their music is thought provoking / numbing depending on the song, great for driving or doing home work...
Audioslave - I just really enjoy Tom Morello's guitar mixed with Chris Cornell's vocals, great all day music...
Bad Religion - These dudes have been around a long time, I really like their acoustic stuff
Beastie Boys - cool tunes, I break out their stuff every so often...

Otherwise I listen to almost everthing like...

Black Sabbath, Bob Segar, Boston, Daughtry, Demon Hunter, Dio, Down, Drowning Pool, Duran-Duran, The Doors, Eagles, Evanescence, F.F.D.P, Faith no More, Foo Fighters, Godsmack, GN'R, Helmet, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Led Zep, Linkin Park, Living Colour, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Machine Head, Megadeth, Metallica, Motley Crue, Nirvana, Offsping, Ozzy, P.O.D., Pink, Papa Roach, Pennywise, Paramore, Project 86, Queen, Queensryche, Ratt, Rise Against, Rage ATM, Serj Tankian, Shinedown, Silverchair, Skid Row, Slipknot, Slayer, Soundgarden, stained, STP, Sublime, System of a Down, Tesla, Tom Petty, Trapt, Van Halen, Weezer, White Lion, Warrant, Whitesnake, and....ZZ Top

What about My Dying Bride? I know they don't have the female vocal aspect much but they are pretty close to that label.

I tried listening to My Dying Bride a long time ago. At the time I couldn't stand the male growlings, but now, somehow, I love growlings! I think I'll give one more try :)

Well, growling style vocals are an acquired taste (no matter the gender of the vocalist) for sure, but the first time I heard that style I was in love with it from the start. Honestly, Aaron Stainthorpe does more singing now than he does growls. Sure, he still does the harsher styles but his singing outweighs the growls by quite a bit these days. MDB's music is soooo good that I think it would be pretty hard to ruin it with a certain vocal style...but I'm biased.....so...yeah.
