Mahalo for an amazing article. I wonder if they can reverse it as well.

That's very interesting maybe one day they can actually do that with transmales

So cool. It would definitely be amazing if eventually they could get rid of that gene in transguys and our bodies could pump out testosterone on their own.

That makes me so excited. I have opted out of getting bottom surgery til technology improves and this is something amazing worth waiting for I think.
Oh how wrong we were to think that immortality meant never dying

It's interesting to think that such a small thing as one single gene is all that kept our ovaries as ovaries or testes as testes as we developed. Gender is such a fine balance.

And I agree to that, or in so far
As that I can see no way out but through

Agreed, I hope one day they can do this with trans guys

And if it's reversible, it's a lot like prescribing T

Man how awesome would that be?  It would be epic if they could be able to do that with us in our life time.

Thanks for sharing this, Dean! It makes me feel really hopeful for the future.

I noticed that the article is from 2009 though so I wonder if research is continuing and how far it's come since five years ago.

I've also been keeping an eye on Dr. Atala's research on regenerative medicine. In 2009 he was able to grow male reproductive systems for rabbits. His research is being funded by the U.S. government now and the last I read they're waiting for clearance to start human trials which means they may be able to grow human male reproductive systems in a few years.

With Treier's and Atala's work combined, the future of bottom surgery looks pretty promising.

Dr. Atala's research sounds pretty interesting. As is that first article about the mice. Though, that leads to a whole new question in my mind, and forgive me if this is taking it off topic, as I'm rather curious.

If he IS cleared for human trials, would anybody volunteer for that if they could? It would certainly be cheaper and possibly quicker, but at the same time, it could go wrong in a myriad of ways.

This is cool, i hope it happens for you guys, it'd be great to be in the body you want, for real! If only this (and something for MtFs of course) already existed! It'd be so awesome!

Sehb,

In one of the articles I read it said Dr. Atala and his team plan to test the technology on volunteering U.S. veterans who have lost their genetalia and other body parts in combat while on duty in Iraq.

When I get a chance I'll post a new thread about his research with links to the articles so this one doesn't get off track too much.

Ah, that makes sense. Thank you.

And okay. Probably a good plan. Don't want this thread off track after all.
