I'm Ready

The other day it hit me.  What am I waiting for?  I was giving myself the excuse that I had to wait until I retired to have the surgery.  But the thought of waiting until I'm 60 was not sitting well with me.  In fact it was really bothering me.

The bell has rung.  It's time.  I'll go back to see my therapist and begin the process of securing the letter.  My guess is she's just been waiting for me to realize I've been ready all along.

All the important factors have been addressed.  All the issues have been resolved.  There's no reason to wait any longer.  It's time.  Montreal, here I come!

I have to admit, I was kinda expecting this. It's how you do things. I knew burying yourself in your work, dream job, was not going to work for long. All the way through this you have kinda been, three steps forward, one step back. Not that we all don't do this, many of us do.

It's that I have had several discussions with you in the past about taking a step back and have never had much luck convincing you. It's your way. I remember arguing with you that stopping your transition wouldn't work and more recently that waiting for some tomorrow that may never get here, instead of living for today was wasting valuable time.

That is how it is though, we each find our own way and I will be here to support you in whatever decisions you make. Just to be your friend and tell you that everything is going to be OK, because it is. Besides, I love seeing you when you are like this, all uplifted and with purpose. It's the Julie I like the best.

Actually due to the overwhelming mess, backlogged requests, and angered people, they have laxed on the rules for now so it would be a perfect time to get it while it is currently much easier to get.

Elizabeth, you know me too well.  And I love your honesty.  Yes, I've waffled on just about every major step in my transition but if I wasn't that way I may have never known the beauty of having children (I would have transitioned when I was 18!)

The time just seems right.  I've told my friends that I've changed but added that "changed" isn't the right word.  It's more like I've broken down the walls, dropped the facade and allowed me to be the person I truly am.  My thinking isn't clouded anymore.  I'm not living my life in a way that I think pleases everyone else.

There's a good possibility there will be a break in the job next year in late spring or early summer.  Taking into consideration the time it might take to secure the letter and the waiting time to have the surgery, this could work out perfect.

Kate, thanks for the reminder on the passport.  I had forgotten it's now needed to go to Canada.  And while it will have my birth name at least the picture will more accurately reflect my true gender. 

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.  It means a lot to me.

A psychologist once told me that more than two-thirds of the changes that take place during transition happen between the ears.  It's amazing when you get over the fear of accepting yourself for what you really are, and the fear of what others will think!

I agree with Elisabeth.  I can feel your energy and enthusiasm for life returning.  Perhaps it has been this final acceptance that has done it for you.  Sometimes things just open up before us and we know the right way to go.  It's obvious that's where you are now.  What a wonderful place to be.
