Is it possible to get insurance before top surgery?

The only way I imagine it'll be possible for me to get top surgery in the next few years is if I get insurance that covers it. I'm starting to develop problems from binding, and I don't know how I'm going to keep doing this for the two or three years it'll take to save up on my own. I've always used the right binders, right size, don't bind while I'm asleep, etc. It's starting to interfere with my daily life. I'm in so much pain I can't sleep sometimes.

I'm American. Blue Cross Blue Shield appears to cover it, but I can't tell. Before I start looking up plans, though, I need to know if I can get insurance, get top surgery shortly after, and then cancel my insurance. Is that a possibility? If I'm not making sense, tell me so I can clarify. Thanks. 

From my understanding, most companies only have trans policies that cover trans related surgeries only through employers and not through individual policies. I know cigna works this way.

I don't think any insurance company (a business designed to turn a profit) wants to take a couple hundred dollars as your first payment, give you an expensive procedure, then have you cancel. There will be a contract involved, and you will be bound to the terms of the contract. Hugs, Devlyn

In the US insurance is generally thru the employer. I doubt BCBS would be amused re: expensive procedure and a cancellation.

Preexisting conditions are no longer allowed for insurance determination. I would suggest simply calling insurance companies and asking them the cost of a policy that would  cover the surgery. It is not unusual to hear of $3,000 deductible. You will already have half the surgery paid even before you pay your first premium. I would focus on stashing the money away. You also absolutely need to get a larger binder. If you are hurting that much, it is clearly too small. Take care of yourself by going up a size.
