So I'm absolutely over the moon at the moment  ;D

I've just had a call offering me a new position as a Test Engineer for a company working on online games like poker/roulette/slots with a £5k pay rise (very handy saving for Yesons!!!) and company health/dental plans, yearly bonus, variety of flexible benefits etc.  Pool, ping tables, xbox rooms beanbags, very relaxed dress code, great opportunity to learn lots of new stuff and ways of working.

I really wasn't expecting to get it due to having to do a technical test, coding in php and gherkin (neither of which I have used previously) on a Windows machine without a web server to test my code on (I apparently managed to nail it though!)

I worked with everyone in my current office for years before transitioning and was well liked around the office so I've had nothing but support from the whole company but that means that everyone knows my history (and are very forgiving when I have the odd crazy moment).  I'm going to be going into an environment where only my boss and the HR team are aware of my background and both excited and a little bit scared at the same time!

Has anyone done something similar?  Leaving the comfort of a large group of people that definitely support you to move onto unknown but greener pastures?  How did it go, write below and let me know!

Kaylee,

Congratulation on getting a new and nice job. Yes. I think software developing companies are nice places for transgender.

About 20 years ago, I also worked there. The problem at that time was that the programming position was very unstable, despite of high salary. Many young people came and left. It was sensitive to economy and also the success of software products, which mostly are likely to fail.

Now I teach at a very conservative university. The position is very stable, and the salary level is not so much bad. At first, other faculty members worried about me, because they already knew I sometimes wear skirt. But, nowadays, they praise my fashion and beauty, for the heck of it. Whatever I am, my performance as a professor is more far more important in people's acceptance.

Again, good luck and enjoy your new life.
If ever be in Seoul, you can meet me, and I may guide you.

Just do it.

I can't report any, "Hi how ya doin?" socialization problems leaving the jobs that I either transitioned in or was out in to the one now where I don't talk about it. The biggest problem I've got now is when I see things like:

void InsertIntoListIfNotThereAlready(List<T> knownUnsortedList, T newThing)
{
  var newThingInListAlready = knownUnsortedList.BinarySearch(newThing);
  if(newThingInListAlready == null)
   knownUnsortedList.Add(newThing);
}

Have a hard time controlling my rage and reacting in a "lady like" way (whatever that means). How a group of supposed professionals doesn't catch something at the 101 level of, "BinarySearch has as its precondition that the list is sorted" to work, then no one steps up and assumes responsibility for the error, makes me want to slurp souls like I did in my male days.

I wish you better luck.

Congrats!

I definitely know the feeling. I just started a new job today myself... and it was awesome. Good things can and do happen.
