STP holes?

So typically you drive a hot screw driver through a packer to make a hole for an STP. But I've found this to make inadequate holes that aren't straight or take a while. Now what I've been thinking is what if I used a drill and bit to make the hole? It seems a lot more precise and straight, so has anyone tried this and would it work?

Let me clue you in.  The holes in the real things aren't straight either 

You never know where the pee is going to go first thing in the morning.  That's why a test tinkle is a prudent practice.  Sort of like keeping an eye on the tracer rounds to zero in on the target.

How would you clamp a squishy packer to ensure that you got the drill in the right place?  I'd imagine it'd just squish into nothingness and you'd just ending up attempting to drill through the clamp itself.  Or not use a clamp and drill through your hand (bad idea)!

I didn't use a clamp. It worked okay but it was definitely not straight. If you are asking how to get the hole to work and go all the way thru, I started at one end, and finished at the other thereby joining the two holes up.
Otherwise, I would have started at one end and ended up with a hole half way in the middle of the thing and I don't mean the shaft.
