Cindy

I was sitting in my office and suddenly the door darkened. 6' 5" 250 lb of ex ice-hockey player filled the door. (yes we do have ice-hockey in Australia!)

It was an ex-student. "Cindy I heard but didn't believe' 'Can I give you a hug?' As long as you don't squeeze too tight, I'm a bit sensitive in areas  ' He gave me a very gentle hug and a kiss on my cheek. 'I'm so happy for you, I never knew what you must have been going through, you should have said'

Our fears are ours, sometimes we never knew how beautiful people are.

Thank you 'dump truck'

Thought I would share ;D

People continue to surprise me.. People I never thought would be accepting, are.. To the point that I'm just another one of the girls.

Here's an example..

I went to HS in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, in a fairly culturally diverse area.. There were quite a few Greek guys, guys not known for their tolerance of diversity, be it race, gender or sexuality.. Back in November, while I was in Melbourne visiting my daughter and grandkids, I happened to go along to my 20yr HS reunion. No one said a bad word. All the guys (greek or otherwise) gave me a hug.. All seemed pleased to see me.  The reunion was held at a public venue and sometime during the later part of the night, some drunk spanner decided to smash me in the face with a plastic glass - thank the goddes it was plastic. Before I could react, 6 of the greek guys had taken the spanner away to give him a stern talking to. It was stern enough that George broke his finger - in 2 places.

When they returned, I attempted to thank them.. And was told no thanks were needed, they'd have done that for any of the girls.

I almost didn't go to the reunion because I was worried about how some of the guys would react.. Silly me - they turned out to be my knights in shining armour..

PS: I did arrange a splint and some ice for George's finger..

The more I'm out the more I'm treated as a lady. I interact with the public often and haven't had any bad experiences.

:)
