Kaydee

I am 56 and finally realized I am transgender a couple months ago while reading some descriptions on this web site.  I am seeing a therapist to explore my gender issues.  I find myself alternatively scared and excited by possibilities opening up.  Anyway I thought it was time I stopped lurking and joined the family here.

While I am fortunate to have no children in the home to deal with, I do have a very conservative wife with whom I will need to share my new realization with sometime soon.

Hi Kaydee

I think many of us know that scared and excited at the same time feeling. Starting at a gender therapist was definitely a good move.

I hope things work out well with your wife :)

Kaydee, let me say it is not all that uncommon for many of us who are now in the 40s, 50s, and 60s, to come to a realization later in life.  Many of us had, in retrospect, clues that something was going on, but lacked the resources to understand it all or found ways to cope.

Talking with a counselor is a good start.

From sunny southern California, a warm welcome to you.

Hi Kaydee,

A big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.

There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.

Good to see you're putting together a good plan for moving forward. This is an exciting journey. Not many choices in life give you the opportunity to be scared and excited at the same time. Just wait till you go on hormones, if you do. That's when you laugh and cry at the same time.  ;D

Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.

Lotsa huggs
Catherine
