Was it difficult? How long did it take overall? How much did it cost total?

Thanks

I did mine in 2005. Cost me a total $800.00 but i had somone do it all for me.

Took around 3 months total from start to finish.

One i guess could do it on there own.

Just check with your local courthouse.

Thanks! Do you know if it was that amount because someone else did it or is that just for the actual process?

Yes it was due to someone doing all the paperwork, all the file fees and advertisments. All i paid was one amount and they did all the work.

It is something that you can do. I went that route being i was trying to find a new job out of state and dealing with a divorce so had my hands full.

Wish i did it myself and saved the $ but i did not have the time to invest at that moment.

I just finished filling out the PDF forms to do it myself (for $200). Here is the Guide from the state to do it:

How to Ask the Court to Change Your Name - Adult 🔗 [Link: judiciary.state.nj.us/prose/10551_namechg_adult.pdf/]

You also need to file a Civil Case Information (CIS) 🔗 [Link: judiciary.state.nj.us/prose/10517_ps_pkt.pdf/] which is the most confusing part since the instructions are rather lacking. The document type is "Complaint", Case Type Number is "151" and for the Caption use: "INRE:  <insert birth name here>"

I'll be heading to the Bergen County Courthouse Tomorrow or Friday with the forms and check in hand.
