See here's the thing: you have to live with the name. Not her. Pick a name YOU like, or you'll just be miserable signing it the rest of your life.

Go with it. It sounds very feminine and poetic! :)

You don't have to please anyone else with this. It's YOUR name.

You've earned this. Be Lavinia.

If I had been born (physically) female, my parents would have named me Ruth. Do I feel any connection to that name, knowing it's history? Hell no. I'd rather be Tegan, thank you very much.

My point is, you know who you are. Be her.

*shrugs* I just asked my mom what name I'd have had would I have come out right. After that it was just getting used to it. You can pick whatever name you like but I'll tell you plainly that getting your mom involved (esp if you're still young) can and probably will make this a lot more inclusive.

You can always have a legal name that she likes, pick your middle name, and go by that but still be her baby.

My 2¢.

My mother has an issue with any name that is not my current legal name, and she cried for a good 15 minutes when I asked her what I would have been named born with the proper parts.
People change their names for many reasons, sometimes because they didn't like the name their parents gave them. Rarely are the parents happy in that situation too...
Hey, you've reached Lauren's signature! If you have any questions, want to talk, or just need a shoulder to cry on, leave me a message, and I'll get back to you.

I actually broke the news to my mom *after* I got the name out of her. Given that the OP's parent seems fine with transition but not name, it might build a bridge.

Starla

Well like everyone else in here has mentioned, it's your name not hers. Go with what you like.

I chose the female version of my name, but both my parents have passed so it's just the name I like

Off topic, but I have to say, Starla, that you look incredible. I mean, really really good. Nice job.

Stay sweet,

My mom wasn't that fond of my name either... She was going to name me Leah. Definitely not a Leah, haha. Definitely a Jenny.

When I offered to make my middle name by her first name "Elizabeth" she said "awww... now I could get used to Jenny Elizabeth!" Now I pretty much solely go by Jenny Elizabeth.

And presto the battle was won & everyone is happy :D

Have you considered making your mom's first your middle?
