Just for fun: what movie quotes inspire you?

As an amateur cinephile, I often find inspiration for getting through certain moments in my life through the wisdom that can be gleaned from films. I thought it might be fun to share the quotes from films that bring us strength, clarity, positivity, and endurance.

I'll start:

One of my favorite movies is Lost in Translation. Many people think it's a character study about loneliness, but I feel that it is instead a character study of connection, empathy, and understanding.

There's a moment in it, in which quarter-life crisis Charlotte asks mid-life crisis Bob if it ever gets easier. His reply is so powerful, in my opinion:

"The more you know who you are and what you want, the less you let things upset you."

Simple words, but so comforting and powerful. At least, for me. :)

So, now it's your turn!

Whatcha got, ladies and gents?

Happy Saturday, all!

Cheers,
Tegan

Probably anything from the movie Pulp Fiction. Maybe not inspirational, but come on. The entire film is practically quotable.

But this one is my favorite. Just the way it was delivered was absolutely perfect.

Jules: There's a passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon you." Now... I been sayin' that ->-bleeped-<- for years. And if you ever heard it, that meant your ass. You'd be dead right now. I never gave much thought to what it meant. I just thought it was a cold-blooded thing to say to a mother->-bleeped-<-er before I popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some ->-bleeped-<- this mornin' made me think twice. See, now I'm thinking: maybe it means you're the evil man. And I'm the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here... he's the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could mean you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. And I'd like that. But that ->-bleeped-<- ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd.

"Now THAT is a tasty burger!"

Lol! Last weekend, I was at a restaurant that served a Royale with Cheese. I ordered it on principle. It was delicious.

From the movie Rocky Balboa. Rocky talking to his son when his son blames Rocky for making him look bad and having a hard time in life:

"You ain't gonna believe this, but you used to fit right here. (He gestures to the palm of his hand). I'd hold you up to say to your mother, 'This kid's gonna be the best kid in the world. This kid's gonna be somebody better than anybody I ever knew.' And you grew up good and wonderful. It was great just watchin' you, every day was like a privilege. Then the time come for you to be your own man and take on the world, and you did. But somewhere along the line, you changed. You stopped being you. You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you're no good. And when things got hard, you started lookin' for something to blame, like a big shadow.

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place, and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!

Now if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth! But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that!

I'm always gonna love you no matter what. No matter what happens. You're my son and you're my blood. You're the best thing in my life. But until you start believing in yourself, you ain't gonna have a life."

My wife and I used to quip movies quotes back and forth to each other all of the time (and that's something that I really miss now that shes gone). A well timed and placed movie quip in a situation could bring us both to tears while laughing. There were SO many good movies we would quote from, but it seems like most of the quotes came from Office Space because we both worked at a company that was just like the company in the movie.

K Style Addiction

It's a long one and from a movie I've never seen but I saw the final speech in this movie and was so touched.

A Jewish Barber: I'm sorry, but I don't want to be an emperor. That's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible; Jew, Gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone, and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men's souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The airplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men; cries out for universal brotherhood; for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women, and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. Soldiers! Don't give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you, enslave you; who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel! Who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don't hate! Only the unloved hate; the unloved and the unnatural. Soldiers! Don't fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the seventeenth chapter of St. Luke, it is written that the kingdom of God is within man, not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people, have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy, let us use that power. Let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfill that promise. Let us fight to free the world! To do away with national barriers! To do away with greed, with hate and intolerance! Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness. Soldiers, in the name of democracy, let us all unite!
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain, I like watchin' the puddles gather rain.

Despite all my rage, I'm still just a rat in a cage

I always tell the truth... Even when I lie.

I kill a communist for fun, but for a green card? I'm gonna carve him up real nice.

Who put this thing together? Me, that's who! Who do I trust? Me!

I never ->-bleeped-<-ed anybody over in my life that didn't have it coming to them. You got that? All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break them for no one.

I didn't come to the United States to break my ->-bleeped-<-ing back.

The only thing in this world that gives orders... is balls.

All by Tony Montana! He's up there with Sun Tzu, lol!

But well, my absolute favourite quote that makes me all excited when I hear it and pumped for action...

HEEEEEERE'S JOHNYYYY!

I know this thread hasn't been posted in for a while, but I just HAVE to share mine
it would definitely be from Treasure Planet, I think of it all the time and it's such a motivational and confidence boosting quote for me :)

"You got the makings of greatness in you, but you got to take the helm and chart your own course. Stick to it, no matter the squalls! And when the time comes you get the chance to really test the cut of your sails, and show what you're made of... well, I hope I'm there, catching some of the light coming off you that day." - John Silver

Been stuck on Tina Turner's "Beyond Thunderdome" lately . . .
( critical election time coming up! )

Out of the ruins, out from the wreckage
Can't make the same mistake this time
We are the children, the last generation
We are the ones they left behind

And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it
Living under the fear till nothing else remains

We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the thunderdome

lol Luv the 'sax' player! Speaking of:
Quote from: Ezekiel 5Behold, I, even I, am against you. And I will execute judgments in your midst in the sight of the nations. 9 And because of all your abominations I will do with you what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again. source

Rhett Butler telling Scarlett O'hara : "Frankly my dear I just don't give a damn" (Gone with the wind)

The Terminator: "I'll be back"

Colonel Chamberlein on July 2, 1863 in Gettysberg. Telling his 20th Maine that if we lose this battle we might lose the war. That the war was to set people free, not to get property or rule

Inspired by the last one. Only liked the 1st two.

One of my favorite movie quotes. One of those that I like to think about whenever I'm struggling. Also, the whole trilogy is super awesome!
