So, I have an appointment for next Thursday to see a doctor who specializes in working with trans people :) The whole clinic does and they seem great. So, I may get to start hormones soon. My therapist is willing to write a letter. I'm excited. They are also willing to take on the role as GP there and since I don't have one that would be great. They just sound amazing.

And I've gotten to know a coworker who openly transitioned from mtf at work. She has totally broken ground for me. She's loaned me some books and is willing to go to a transgender meeting (I hate parties/groups) with me. I'm hoping next Wednesday. She says she didn't get any really bad reactions at work and did get supportive reactions. And she is a heavy equipment operator so it was sort of a big shock. I work with educators and we get exposed to all sorts of stuff and I've never really presented as female (mostly andro) so it won't seem as big a shock?

It is really nice to have someone to talk to who understands. I have a friend who is mtf and she's doing the HTR right now. I hope everything goes will for you, Chris.

Christopher, that's so exciting!  I'm glad you have an ally and someone who has been the process to help guide you.

Thanks. I can't believe I am excited to go to the doctor. Normally I *hate* going to the doctor. I am a little worried that once she finds out how messed up I am, she won't want to deal with me. My therapist says that as far the mental health stuff goes she will write a letter or meet with her if need be. This could be a loooooong week

You'll do fine Cris. Just be truthful and hold nothing back. Remember, these Doctors are there to help you, not judge you. You'll be fine and afterward you'll feel alot better about everything and yourself. :icon_flower:

I hope so. I haven't had the best luck with doctors. And I have the whole mental illness stigma.

But trying to be positive, this doctor has chosen to work specifically with the LGBT community so she must be pretty special.

Yes finding a Doctor that has transgender experience is even better. Again, you'll do fine.

So, does anyone have any idea what I can expect from my doctor appointment?

Did I mention I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally don't like going to the doctor?

And do any of you have a SI history. I'm covered in scars. If so, did that make the doctor hesitate in prescribing you T?

PS- I hate going to the doctor

I was so nervous until I blurted out, I want t! My doctor was so cool about it. She was already treating me for anxiety, and I have SI scars that I know she has seen. She did make sure I had a therapist.

Anyway she got kinda excited when I asked. Like she really loved her job, helping people be themselves.

My appointment was great. Waiting for blood work now but pretty soon I should be starting on T.

That's awesome! I will say that I had some severe agoraphobia, I'm autistic, though high functioning, used to have daily panic attacks, use a Service Dog, and have seizures and neither my therapist, nor my endo batted an eyelash at anything.

I was completely honest with both of them about everything. I see a neurologist to control my seizures, migraines and the therapist for both transition help and help with my autism (behavior and occupational therapy) and my endo was fine with that. He wants me to continue therapy, obviously, but I started T within a week after my therapist sent him my letter.

Thanks. Charliedogist that's helpful to hear.

I have been diagnosed with mild autism but I think that's wrong. I'm currently diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder which I know is true and I think that explains the autism disorder. And I do have sensory processing disorder. I have not had good luck with doctors in the past, so trust is hard.

Autism is comorbid with a LOT of other disorders. And it's possible that those other disorders are just PART of your autism. Honestly, just working on the autistic stuff has helped a crapload with everything else.

That's not to say I don't have days where I want to hide in my house, but it's helped tremendously with my rational anger issues (well, irrational to everyone but me, to me the issues are perfectly logical reasons to be angry :p ) it's also helped a lot with some of my more OCD tendency's, and my problems with disassociation when something goes "wrong". Of course, I also have my SD who is trained to be persistent when I start doing repetative behaviors that are potentially harmful. I still have repetitive behaviors, they're extremely soothing, but I don't realize I'm doing them until I've been sitting or standing somewhere for like, thirty minutes doing them, if I don't have another person with me, or I have to venture out on my own.
