Sir Real

I hope this hasn't been done before, I haven't seen any and I don't know how to search while on my phone. I'm curious to know if anyone has noticed taste changes while on T. Are there foods you like now you didn't like before and vice versa? Are there foods that are worse now than before and again, foods you like better now than before?

Edit: it's supposed to say T and Food -.-

Hmm. Well, I've developed a love for onions.

Can't say that I've experienced this personally.

I feel like my taste buds just grew up, period. I never thought about it being because of testosterone.

Yes a little. I used to like this ice tea at this one place here. I would go out of my way to get it. I went from liking it a lot, not really caring one way or another about either way, to not really liking it. It has a floral/fruity taste. I like fruit just fine. Also I like chocolate (including dark) but it doesn't "do anything for me" like it seemed to before. Maybe it changed somehow but I understand men don't smell certain things, so that that makes sense.

That's actually a very interesting point there - I recently discovered, I like tuna. I used to hate tuna because whenever I smelled it I felt nauseous. Now, although I'm not fond of the smell, it bothers me way less. It was the same with onions, I would smell them and feel sick, but now I just love them, the more the better.

My taste buds have changed, but I think as we get older that just happens. Until I was about 22 I hated carrots, starting five years ago (well before HRT) I started liking them. Also, if your body is craving a certain mineral or vitamin, you'll have cravings for things that you don't like. And when you eat it, it's the most amazing thing ever. I hated a certain vitamin c juice here, but one day I couldn't get enough of it. It was the best tasting thing in the world. Get in my mouth! Lol. I know when I work out I crave protein more.

I know that after two years of living here I eat a lot of things I never would have before.

Well I'm an adult and have only been on T for a month and a half, but I am much less interested in sweet foods and much more interested in savory foods. Protein over carbs. This could be from working out a bit more and not just from T but I doubt it's from only aging because it's such a short time span. Sweet foods I used to migrate to are just not interesting at all anymore.

Funny you guys mention onions. I used to not be able to eat them raw in the slightest, regardless of type of onion (perhaps green ones). They tasted just too strong. Now I really like red onions chopped up in things. I'm not too fond of them on burgers or anything.

Yeah I noticed Im eating the things I don't like now. I don't know if It was T related but now you mentioned it I guess it is. Also after I had my top op my taste bud has changed too.

I believe it is actually sense of smell vs taste. When I was living as female, I smelled gas so I called the gas company. They came out and he could not even sense it with his instruments. He said, I know you're right about this. Women (sic) can always smell this." I was actually right and he found some by putting soap suds on a burner. There was a very tiny leak. It's not actually natural gas but there's a chemical additive so it has a scent.

I've heard men's sense of smell isn't quite as acute but doesn't quite explain why the tea has a strange taste to me, but would explain why I like raw onions now. I think chocolate. It tastes good but it has no effect on my mood.

Yes, I was a vegetarian pre-T and never had a problem with it.
A few weeks of T made me crave meats a lot, and started to eat meat, now I am eating A LOT OF meats.
I have been trained to be a dietitian so I am quite sensitive to my diet changes but it did not bother me too much, since all my lab results turned out well. I don't think it will be good for me in the long run though, I probably will seriously adjust my diet when I get into mid 20s.

Haha things didn't taste different, I just was hungry ALL THE TIME. It got to the point where eating was just a pain in the ass.

I did start eating fish after about a decade of vegetarianism. I don't think I really needed to, but my schedule was super hectic and I was having trouble keeping up with my new protein needs.

I haven't noticed a difference in taste, but I have noticed an increased appetite.
