Does your gender holding you back?

I'm a transgender man. I just graduated from college but I'm terrified of the thoughts working in a company with all the restrictions and barriers concerning my sexuality. I know I won't be regarded as a man at work (no, not in my country) and I also can't force myself to act and dress like a woman.

I'm considering to work as a freelancer, maybe less earning at first but I have all my freedom. So, what do you do? Is your sexuality holding you back from your career? How has you overcome it?

It may be a big step, but have you considered moving away from your country if there is no way to successfully transition within it?

It's ideal for me to move out but I don't have the financial ability to do so atm. First, I got to save up for my top surgery. Second, I have to afford to take my gf with me wherever I go. She just started college so she doesn't have any money.

I think Kreuzfidel was asking what you mean. Sexuality has many meanings depending on language. For English speakers, sexuality means sexual orientation, as in, what sex are you attracted to.

My being trans has not stopped my professional progress. I work as an English teacher. I also publish on the side. Being self employed means that you need to be able to self motivate. Can you force yourself to work 16 hour days without pay? It's a reality I face as an author and it can be really hard.

I bolded the part I am referring to.  What does that mean to you when you say act and dress like a woman?

I present as female, but wear all men's clothing, have a guy's haircut, etc.  At work I wear a dress shirt, dress pants, dress shoes.  All men's clothing, the only thing I am missing is a tie.  I have had top surgery.  I get "read" as male most places that I go, but I am known as female at my job (I am not on T).  My coworkers, however, instinctively treat me as a male and my close friends know I identify as trans.

Could you live like the above until you can transition?

I understand what your saying and I could relate to that too. I used to work in an office where they have uniforms, all of the males dress different than females. I guess you would just hab to live with it for awhile b4 you're financially better. I know it's pretty hard if ur from another country where people are not open to this yet.

i'm currently unemployed. I study and work ever on a factory ever second week, but the payment is so low that I will quit soon.

beside it general being difficult for anyone to get a job it specially got more difficult if you are either don't have a good education or work experience or if you are diffrent in any kind of way in your look your race or gender or sexuality,
Here we are also talking about casual jobs like working in MC donnald or cleaning the stairs.

I have made my own aplication because those hand-fill-out aplication you get alot of place writte male/female and since my ID is female and my look is male I always find it to be pretty troublesome.
my plan is to try writte my aplication as gender neutral as posible and if im lucky to get to a job interviuw then I will just say theres an mistake in the ID card or try to explain the situation, but people wouldn't hire med if I wrotte dirrectly I was trans.
