Handy

Greetings friends! I've had an account here for a bit, but have only recently taken to posting.

Anyway here's my introduction:

My name is Andy, (profile name 'Handy' was a nickname given to me in high school, because I washed my hands a lot (kids are clever like that) that just sort of stuck), and I am a recently out of the closet MTF (recent with friends/family anyway, been out to my SO muffinpants for more than a year now).

I knew I didn't feel male, and I mean at all, from my earliest memories. Like many of you I went through a period of extreme denial/self-loathing/depression from about age 14 to about 22 when I finally accepted the fact that I had been telling myself my entire life I could "beat this" yet had never come any closer to doing so (and thus, came out to muffinpants). I'm fortunate to be blessed with the greatest SO in the world (muffinpants is beyond supportive, and encourages me every day to be myself). On the flip side my parents are decidedly unsupportive; their initial reaction to my coming out was immediately disowning me (my mother anyway; don't worry, they have come around A LOT, and now regularly communicate/discuss my transition/are generally tolerant though 'dissapointed', so all things considered for a trans* person, I'd say I got pretty lucky).

I've been on HRT for about one year now, and am really starting to see the effects! My transition timeline is to have everything complete before I'm thirty; I've snagged myself a lovely internship for the summer (at a company which specifically includes gender identity in their non-discrimination policy) which promises to evolve into a full time job lined up for me when I graduate, so hopefully I'll be able to stick to my schedule (got most of my 20s left to get it done, so fingers crossed!)

Apart from trans* issues I am currently a Computer Engineering/Physics double major senior at Virginia Commonwealth University, and when I'm not studying (almost never) I'm almost always programming silly little video games or drawing (mainly goofy cartoons, like my avatar!)

well if you read this far kudos to you! If anyone ever feels like chatting feel free to hit me up! I like to think myself a good conversationalist, and will happily babble for hours if you let me XD

Hi Andy and welcome to Susan's.  It's great that your SO supports you. It does make a positive difference. Best to you in your studies and on your transitioning.
