How did you find your ideal eyebrow shape? Do you trust the "professionals"?

I've been experimenting with cover up to mask areas of my eyebrow to find an ideal shape. Now I'm more confused than ever. Nothing seems to look right except for a somewhat bushy brow and tidy underneath.

Should I cast my faith and just go to a threading professional?

How many eyebrow shapes did you end up going through before finding the ideal one? (and did those plucked oops'ies grow back?)

I seem to have been fairly fortunate with my eye brows. Not very arched but also not too thick or gnarly. If anything they're a bit light at the outer ends To date I haven't done any shaping but I do pluck out a random super long hair or two every week. I also use a bit of eyeliner pencil to give the appearance of darker colour, shape and length - despite my limited ability it seems to work fairly well. Wouldn't mind getting my browns dealt with by a pro at least once just to see what the difference could be.

To dream of the person you would like to be is to waste the person you are.

When I first started shaping my I used this page as a guide to help me figure out what approach I should take: http://www.virtualffs.co.uk/Eyebrows.html I took things very slowly at first, and over the course of a few weeks I refined them in small incremental steps until I had a shape I was happy with. Now that I have that, all I have to do is pluck stray hairs every 2-3 days. Personally I think it's a waste of money to go to a professional for something like this, because with practice it's something you can easily do yourself, and you'll probably be happier with the final result if you're shaping things exactly the way you want them, rather than relying on someone else who may have their own ideas about what eyebrows are supposed to look like. Just experiment a little, figure out what works for you, and after that the maintenance is easy. ;) Oh, and about the regrowth, I've heard that in some cases plucked eyebrow do not full grow back, but this has not been the case for me. I'm not sure if the regrowth is 100%, but I still have hair regrowing constantly in all the areas there used to be hair before I started shaping. I'm not sure if they would regrow completely if I left them alone for long enough, but I don't really have any desire to find out either. :P

This is soooooo true! 'Professional' doesn't necessarely mean 'good taste in esthetics'.

Especially the tattood eyebrows, sometimes even reddish brow look really horrible, cheap and harsh, even on ciswomen.

I think your ideal eyebrow shape should be according to your facial features. Yes professional may or may not be able to tell you but definately ask them or a couple of them. There are so many ways to shape them that compliments your face and facial structure. If your eyes are too close togethter you can shape them in a way that makes them not look so close together. Same way if they are too far apart. A higher arch may look really good on some and other it will give them and eternal look of surprise. A lower arch may look good on someone and on someone else make them look mad all the time.

I went by my cosmetology book I got from school.

Definately this. If you can get your hands on a cosmotology book or even a professional can tell you where the arch should be, where the inside edge and outside edge should be. You can read all the magazines, talk to professionals, look at tutorials, get some of those little templates and experiment with them. I just read, looked up tutorials and did the pencil and the nose thing to where the inner and outer edges should be and where the arch should be and it works for me without an over arch. But then you have to worry about how thick they should be and don't forget the tops edges are just as important as the bottoms and how much of an arch you want that looks good. But yeah the overpluckies do grow back.

The big thing is do a little bit at a time instead of trying to get that perfect shape right off the bat. If you overpluck it takes about a month or two stuck with what you did.

I just started plucking them. The shape was already there, I just merely thinned them out. A little along top edge, a little more along the bottom curve of the brows, tah-dah, done. :)

I lack the ends on my eyebrows, so a few years ago, I had them 'enhanced'. ( Don't really like the word tattoo. Don't like the word penis either. My Therapist does. Uses it all the time. Likes to talk about when I get my penis removed. I tell him it's going to get 're-purposed'.) But I do go maybe once a month and get my brows threaded. It's pretty cheap, they get a nice shape for me that I'd never be able to get right. Well worth it for me.

I got them waxed once and just maintained the shape after. The person I went to did a brilliant job on mine.

I have mine done at European Wax center for about $15 every 3 weeks. They are trans friendly and I'm just one of the girls with them. Mine were pretty thick and started to get out of control. I still get these wild hairs every now and then, but accounting to my waxer, all cis-women get them too as we age. They shaped them and even though I maintain them between sessions, I feel so much better afterwords. I also have them do my nose hairs, which can get out of control, but HRT has help that tremendously.

I go to a small salon in my nearby Mall. 8$ and all I tell them is "make it pretty". Haven't failed me yet. Asians know their cosmetology lol. Though they don't often get the whole "trans thing" so when I was first dressing FT, I had to tell them "give me a feminine shape please." because they would give me the "clean and groomed ::for men::" look and assumed i was just a cross-dresser who still had a male identity to keep up. Now whenever I go back, if the girl who remembers me is there, then she'll know what I want, but if shes not then someone else just gives me the basic female eyebrow wax.

Recently I invested in some high-end tweezers xD sooooooooo much easier to maintain and i dont have to get it waxed as often as before. Something i learned when i first started waxing my eyebrows is that its never good to use someone else as reference (unless you're just referencing the thin/thickness) and its never good to go with a basic "stencil" because everyone has different eyebrows and eyebrow shapes, so you just have to either do it yourself and find out what you like, take a pic, and show it to the waxing person so they can see that its you and not someone else. OR put your trust in the person doing it and just say "make it pretty" lol

Ever notice, different eyebrow shapes seem to work on anyone else - except on you.

We are, our own worst criti.... eh, and so on.

Well, I let my natural shape do it's own thing. I am fine with the arch that nature gave me, but I make sure the eyebrow hairs themselves are not too long (a few seem much longer than the others), and I pluck the underside to make them thinner, and I pluck stray hairs that do not fit in with the natural arch of my brows.

The picture I have on here is from before I did them (and Pre-HRT that pic is 3 years old), so they might look a bit bushy there, but they are fine now.

Honestly brows are not hard, if all you are doing is trying to augment what you have into a feminine look, if you are trying to do something that goes against how your brows naturally arch, that could be tough. Or if you want to shave them off and draw them on, that too can be tough to make it look right.

I prefer my natural shape. Usually I trim my eye brows using the tweezers once per week, but fine hairs grow too fast. Finally, I purchased the trimming scissors a few days ago. The difference is very subtle, but my colleagues and friends praise my new appearance. Also, positive comments in Facebook. Probably I would not need the professionals.

Sure! I bought your advice on trimming eyebrows. The scissors and brush just costed < ca. USD 10.

When I was young, I was femme, but nowadays it is mostly from botox, filler and some anti-aging creams.

I put it on the Korean or maybe just Asian genes more than anything barbie. When I was there it seemed like the men and women that were older looked younger than some of the Americans of the same age and actually in some cases younger. I knew a 27 year old American guy that looked older than a 56 year old Korean man that I worked with.

Yes. I also have noticed that, despite great individual variability, generally speaking, East Asian people tend to look younger than Caucasians. But I know a few Russian women who still maintain a slim body and beauty even after delivering one or two babies. It is certain that regular exercise can make people look younger.

I think genetics also plays a role. My parents also looked far younger than other Koreans at the same age. My dad at age 77 still does not have any single grey hair. I have several graduate students at their early 30s, and people comment that they look older than me. Usually people think I am in 30s, but even in 20s when they just look at my back.

Today's my selfie. Yes. Trimming eyebrows seems to make me look a little bit younger.

Same here. Got lucky first time, they turned out great. I've tried maintaining them though but I've only managed to keep the shape. Otherwise they're a bit thicker and maybe a bit ragged. Going to see if my luck holds out pretty soon and go for a second time. :3
