[There has been a] final ruling ending Medicare's decades-long exclusion for coverage of certain types of health care treatment related to gender transition. This discriminatory rule barred transgender people from accessing health care they urgently need. Now [. . .], a transgender person who receives health coverage through Medicare can be individually evaluated by their primary health care provider. Treatments related to gender transition will be covered if determined to be medically necessary.

I just need to move to a state that I can get medicaid. then hope.

More and more, I hear Oregon calling me, or is it OK?

There is a severe backlash on this over 99% are repulsed by this. With the other 1% say that is okay on this, that private insurance should pay, self pay and that some say i have a knife and i'll do it for free.

If I understand this currently applies only to Medicare, not Medicaid.

Yes but the implications are pretty amazing. I think all the federal rules are going to be changed, so that is going to mean (eventually) the VA and Medicaid (though Medicaid does get state funding). Eventually I think this affects private insurance because the ACA mandates the type of insurance that is appropriate.

There may be a backlash of sorts but I would say that 99% of the population has NO opinion at all and won't even know about it.

Now the question is how do you take advantage of it?
I have Medicare, parts A, B, and D.
The website, still lists it as not covered.  Also, can I srs get after one year of transitioning?

I'm just so happy of this news, as it makes my life a lot easier.

I want to cry, I do! I have medicare and Medicaid and have been holding out hope for this. (As otherwise, I don't know if I can afford these series and I'd rather die if I knew I couldn't get them in my life) I don't have drug coverage for one of them though but I do have it for hospital/surgery stuff I believe for both. Now all I need to do is somehow get my life on track and get on hormones and see someone and all this plus being full time for a year and hopefully then, I can get what I really need and not just want which is, to finally be what I truly am, a woman!

EDIT!!! Wait, is this for all of the US or is it only for select states in the US and if so, which ones? :(

Hey! Long time no see! From what I read, hormones and SRS are covered as those ARE essential to many of us trans people. I assume other stuff is also covered too like top surgery for FtM patients as those too are essential.

EDIT: Oh I probably should mention that they might only cover certain homones and other such stuff. You know, anything that'll save them money lol (In other words, what they offer for free MAY NOT be as good as we really need)

From my understanding of the changes the only things that won't be covered are FFS, BA and VFS.

Long time indeed onee-chan. Well my psych meds cost more than the hormones and (one of.my meds cost about $150 for a month supply) they cover just fine. I'll have my doctor do the hormone imbalance still just in case thoigh.
