DEBATING GENDER IDENTITY DISORDER: Democratic presidential candidates debate on MTV's gay and lesbian network, Logo
EURweb dot com

On August 9, MTV's gay-lesbian cable network, Logo, is hosting the first-ever presidential debate intended to promote the homosexual and transgender (gender identity disorder) lifestyles. All major presidential candidates have been invited to participate.

To date, all Republican presidential candidates have declined, while all major Democratic candidates have accepted.

That could be interesting.  My question is will they actually fulfill any thing they promised if they are elected.

I don't trust any politician Republican or Democrat.

They'll make statements that are supportive, but then they will qualify any real advancements as "this is not the time".
I think Lincoln did the same thing with slavery. The general consensus was that it would either peter out or that it was better to wait for an opportunity where  some small advancements to abolition could be made. If there were no war, we probably would have had slavery at least until world war II, if not the year 2000.

Remember, we have to move slowly. We have to wait until the opportunity presents itself. We have to gather more support. This is not the time. - [she said in complete sarcasm]

I think the politicians are all cowards. the reason social advancements go so slow is that these 'leaders' don't have the courage to take a true stand. A true leader would be honest even if it cost them a few elections.

All of the things y'all stated were well said, but......

the fact that we have reachhed a point in time, where candidates for the highest office in the land, are even willing to be seen on the same stage as queer and transgendered people, and are willing to be videotaped answering to those people is a milestone in and of itself. I have been around for a long time, and I never thought I'd see this in my lifetime!

So it also speaks to the growing political power we have in this nation. It also speaks to the growing civil war we are approaching ~ as the right has sought the support of the conservaturds as part of it's base, the left is reaching out to the queers and transgendered for their support, financial and otherwise. We dare not lose this oppotunity to influence an election. Just like the religious right has done ~ giving power to the conservatives to change the face of the Supreme Court, we too if united ~ could change the political face of the country if we have the gumption to stand up and say no mas!

It may look like a hollow gesture, but this is a milestone in amerikan politiks. They need our $$$ and support. We need to lower the noose.

I agree with you.  I guess I was just being pessimistic which is not helpful to anybody.  I like the idea of a future supreme court judge wearing a pink robe.

"Gender Identity Disorder Lifestyle"? Did I miss a memo here?

Wonder if there's a Diabetes Lifestyle or a Rheumatoid Arthritis Lifestyle.

Damn. I need to buy new towels if I'm gonna have to acquire a Lifestyle.

ROTHFLMAO!!!!!

Right on Dennis!  I was so caught up in the political aspect that, that little gem zinged right over my head.  Good catch.

Hopefully, someone on that panel will be able to bring that point out loud and clear.

Once again heterosexism shows itself to be the true ruler of the world. Not everyone is the same or born the same, but that doesn't mean that everyone should not be accepted as they are.

August 9
Interestingly, August 6-11 is the ELCA Assembly where GLBT issues will be among the top items on the agenda.  And yes, I'm going to be there.

Well, I got the memo.  Every gender-bender has to go out and buy a Gender Blender for their kitchen.
