My Doc rejected me

I went to my medical appointment today for a check up and blood work results.

I asked him to re-write a script for Delestrogen, had to go back to pills till my new insurance kicked in, he agreed to. Then I asked him if he could write on for progesterone. He said he wouldn't because he said it isn't really effective and it increases the risks I'm taking by even being on HRT. He then said something about a few side effects or whatever. Oh and then he slipped in a trick question and asked what effects did I hope to gain from HRT. I shut him down fast and told him I knew they weren't magic and that after they do what they can I'll have to pick up the slack. Then he said something about implants being a option if I wasn't satisfied with my breasts. I n my head I'm like yea I kinda knew that but whatever.

I understand he has to do whats best, which means covering himself too, but I did sign consent before even starting hrt so I do see what's the issue??

I'm thinking of taking "Other avenues" for the P, after all you only get one shot at this so you gotta make it count.

I present as male but my face is pretty fem.

That's another thing he complemented me on my progress and said he noticed a lot of changes from the last appointment.

Oh and then he slipped in a trick question and asked what effects did I hope to gain from HRT.

As a former medical provider myself I am satisfied after your answer that it was not a trick question. Since you went Informed Consent and did not have a Therapist he is only being a good provider. Look at it this way, he is having to basically do two jobs in one. First he is providing HRT services. Second, he has to make sure you are doing OK psychologically as well since you do not present and may be worried what you expect when the physical aspects kick in. Sounds to me like he is genuinely concerned and not being condescending or anything at all. He seems like a definite professional to me. 

Ps-The medical community is split pretty even on the use of Progesterone. He just may be one who thinks it has no value in transition.

Actually I did see a therapist. I saw one for 5 mos before I got the green light to start HRT. The clinic I go to provides trans health care  in addition to cis health care. It's mandatory to have therapy beforehand. I don't think he's being condescending either, I was just a bit put off by declining the progesterone. I know plenty of people who say they've had results after using it. I know it's hit or miss depending on the person, but I'd still like to try even if it's in small doses.

I understand totally. Good luck and I hope he allows you to try it out. I thought I was going to have to arm wrestle mine for it. I am glad I didn't, SHE would have beaten me!
