CINCINNATI —A man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a transgender woman last week turned himself in to police.

Not much detail given at this time, one family member of the suspect claims it was not a hate crime.

If he would have reacted differently if a cisgendered woman flirted with him then that makes this a hate crime.
If not then he would still be a murderer.
Either way he has committed an abhorrent act (provided that the police and media have the right man).

It makes me sick to think that he might try and wriggle out of this through some kind of Trans-panic defence.
I feel that the "acceptability" of a gay panic or trans panic defence should be an issue where activists should focus on achieving change.

Why would he lose his cool and take an innocent life? All he would have to say is that he isn't interested. I don't buy losing it cause she was trans.

I agree Falconer, I really hope they don't use it as a gay/trans panic and a pass to get a really light sentence. A life was taken needlessly and in cold blood. People have come on to me that I in no way liked (just not my type) and didn't want to have anything romatically to do with them and I never killed 'em. If anything I tried to save their feelings. So I really can't buy this guy losing his cool.

Murder is murder and a life was needlesly taken regardless.

Wow. Anybody that flirts with me I just wanna give a hug to and find it extremely flattering, LGBT or cis. To me and even a few decades ago, murder is murder and extremely coldblooded unless it is in self defense. Thank God we are not still in those times. BTW flirting and coming on to someone would definately not be a case of self defense. Just say thanks but no thanks.

In this case, I am not an FBI profiler or psychic or claim to know anything else but something might have happened and self-guilt might have set in or whatever else. Maybe he found himself attracted to her and/or something happened between them and then shame and self hatred set in and he had to destroy what disgusted him most about himself. In this case suicide of himself would have been better than killing someone else. It definately wouldn't be the first time.

Yes. Many people have sexual hang-ups for various reasons. Many straights guys, for instance, feel a need to constantly re-affirm their heterosexuality. It reflects some sort of sexual insecurity. It's not always a bit of bisexuality they're trying to suppress but sometimes it is. There's that fear that they will kind of like it a little bit. For many others, I think it might just be they had a male figure, probably someone close to them, who took advantage of them at a young age. That will leave someone feeling very sexually vulnerable for a long time; possibly the rest of their life.

I think this is why androgynous-looking guys can be upsetting for a lot of guys, because they're kind of attractive to a straight guy. Those insecure guys want things to be very black and white. They want men to be bearded, chunky, super-hairy, manly, stinky even. Have you noticed a lot of the guys in straight porn are somewhere between average-looking to downright hideous? They just want someone with a (probably large) penis in the scene that they can mentally project themselves (and their own penises) into and they don't want any chance that they will be remotely turned on by the guy in the scene, EVAR!

I'm often attracted to androgynous guys and I don't let it threaten my homosexuality. I'm still gay!
