That is the way we all feel at the beginning.  There is a great fear that we will not be accepted and that we will be the object of scorn.  I found most people to be very decent.  I had someone say "welcome sir" just the other day as I was walking into a store.  I'm sure it was because of my height and nothing more.  A few months ago I probably would have been paranoid that I had been clocked.  Now I know that it is probably not the case.

You have a great foundation to start from.  One of the great things about transitioning later in life is that at our age men and women begin to move closer together in physical appearance making it easier for us to blend in.  The best thing you can do for yourself is to have confidence in yourself. I transitioned with the attitude that I didn't care what others thought and that gave me the confidence to present as myself.  I have not yet had a really negative experience in public in my 13 months of RLE.

Good luck girl!

Thank you again for your kind words.  I have an appointment with my endo this Friday. It is for my diabetes but I will be discussing my transition there too. Hopefully I can get some information there. I do at least plan to ask for them to check my T and E levels. All I know is that I smile every time I see Jenny in the mirror. She makes me feel so happy. :)

Just wanted to second this - words can't describe how unsure and fearful I was when I started my journey.  I think it's extremely rare for a trans person to not have any tiny doubt whatsoever.  Btw Jessie Ann, I remember you from when I first started posting here.  You look really lovely :)

If I look as good as you ladies, I will be thrilled. Thanks again for the support. Honestly, I can't wait to start my journey.

Ahhhh thank you girl!

You have done a remarkable job on your transformation. I love your voice.  I love watching the people here and how they change and grow.  It has been great watching your development and look forward to seeing you blossom even more!

Thank you Amber!!  That's very kind of you :)

My voice training was all DIY, but I did sing in my late teens/early twenties, so I just drew on my singing voice and played around with it until I found the right range.  It took a lot of practice.  You see in my timeline that I started from a deep baritone, and it took over 6-7 months of almost daily practice - and a willingness to sound silly/unnatural/cartoony in public - before it truly began to click.

Well done.  Your voice is remarkably good.  I've seen a few YouTube tutorials and I try to practice in private (while commuting in the car) :-).  Very hard to determine if it is helping. LOL

Do you have any recommendations of videos, techniques or tutorials that you used or you know are effective?

Many thanks.

That link didn't work well for me but it led me to googling around - try the free app 'panotuner'.

I found it quite reassuring - it measures your voice by Hz - below 150 is male range. Above 175 is female range. Presumably between 150 and 175 is overlap territory. You see it moving around as you talk. It was nice to see the dial going up over 200 and settling on an average of 185.

Thanks again :) that's very sweet of you!

I find the Deep Stealth videos the most accessible and easy to follow.  Here's a link to the first video of the series :)

I also recommend videos by Shae Sanguine:

Last, I've offered this in the past, but if anyone wants to do a quick skype session with me, I'm happy to do like half an hour of troubleshooting (just PM me - I do go off Susan's for long periods of time sometimes, but right now I sign in relatively frequently).  My schedule is crazy but I do like helping people with voice - I find it fun :)

Thank you so much :-)

I'm far from needing 'fine tuning' in my voice.  I'm still at the complete overhaul stage. I'm pretty sure I still sound like a dude - LOL
...but one day, I'd love to take you up on your offer and get your opinion/assistance :-)

I'll definitely have a look at those videos.

10 months as of tomorrow.  Thought I'd share a picture or two. :)

PS.  Trying to smirk with braces ends up making your mouth look funny.  Lol.  Also, no makeup.
Carpe diem.

Hi everyone :)

It's been a while since I've been at Susan's, but I was feeling on the better side today, and thought I'd share a quick before and after.  I'm 30, and have been on HRT for 6.5 months.  Really excited to see where things go in the next 6 months :).  I've had some really difficult experiences over the last little while, but transitioning is something I'll never regret having started.

Can anyone who has had FFS tell me if buccal fat pad removal is likely to enhance or be a bad move. I'm not having any jaw shaving or resetting because I don't need it - and I had a top surgeon at a top price tell me he wouldn't take my money for it, which is good enough for me.

But with the cheek pads removed, has anyone here had that done? My concern is that a narrower face might tip the jaw from being fine, to not being.

Its often done along with underchin lipo and jawline lipo... its not really feminizing procedure, its cosmetic procedure for men and women. It can have benefitial effect (in terms of feminization) on width of your lower face, as it makes your lower cheek area narrower, and with that, whole lower facial third narrower in comparison with middle facial third. Its not really commonly used in FFS, except if there is excess tissue.

That's what I thought. It's only an extra $900 so, I might as well. A specialist said my face was rounded and feminine already, so I wondered if it would hinder rather than help me in that. But I've always wanted a very thin face.

Thank you for your answer. Much appreciated.

Wow! Shae Sanguine sounds like a cis woman for me. She has probably worked hard for that. Perhaps it wasn't so difficult for her, since she didn't have so low voice from the start of.

Ange

I don't have a low voice but I have a super high amplitude - I can go very low or very high (so high my doctor is impressed every single time).

But that doesn't help much. How low or high you are, or how low or high you can go, the difficult thing is to make it sound natural.

And I'm still totally hopeless at that.
Tell me what your definition of "man" and "woman" is, I'll tell you which I am. Not the other way around.
